Daniel Jones Contract

$160 Million Free Agent Signs Contract With Minnesota Vikings

Six-year veteran quarterback Daniel Jones signed a new contract with the Minnesota Vikings. Jones, a former first-round pick, spent the entirety of his career with the New York Giants.

Jones joins his new team following a disastrous 2024 with the New York Giants. Entering the season as the starter, the Duke product led the team for the first 10 games of the season, going 2-8 while completing 63.3% of his passes for 2,070 yards, eight touchdowns, and seven interceptions. Head coach Brian Daboll eventually benched him and had him playing safety on the scout team before Jones ultimately requested his release. For what it’s worth, Jones’ former teammates backed the quarterback when this happened and New York lost in humiliating fashion in the first game of the post-Jones Era.

Daniel Jones originally entered the NFL as a first-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. Selected by the New York Giants, Jones started the season backing up two-time Super Bowl champion Eli Manning. However, following a slow start to the season, Jones took over and started the final 12 games of the season. The rookie showed some promise, completing 61.9% of his passes for 3,027 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. However, he couldn’t’ build on this and the Giants declined his fifth-year option ahead of 2022.

Needing to prove himself, Jones had his best season during the 2022 campaign. Starting 16 games, the Duke product completed 67.2% of his passes for 3,205 yards, 15 touchdowns, and five interceptions while guiding the team to a playoff win. Now set to test the open market, the Giants signed him to a four-year, $160 million deal with $80 million guaranteed. This proved to be a mistake, as Jones had a disastrous 2023 and didn’t improve in 2024.

Since signing his rookie contract, Daniel Jones has appeared in 69 games while making 70 starts. While on the field, the quarterback has completed 64.1% of his passes for 2,241 yards, 70 touchdowns, and 41 interceptions.
