New York Jets pass rusher Haason Reddick is the last player still holding out as he seeks a trade or a contract extension. The two-time Pro Bowler entered the 2024 offseason with the Philadelphia Eagles but refused to play under his current deal. The Eagles responded by sending him to the Jets, who seemingly believed he would play under his current deal. That didn’t happen, as the pass rusher skipped all offseason activities and hasn’t played in any of New York’s first three contests.
Prior to last night, Haason Reddick and the Jets seemed to be in a staring contest, but a recent Tweet implies a trade could be on the way. After all, Reddick wants out, and Week 3’s performance proves the Jets won’t need the former Eagle to pressure the quarterback. Is Reddick simply trying to will a deal into existence, or could this be a hint that teams like the New Orleans Saints or Kansas City Chiefs are close to landing the pass rusher?

Latest Haason Reddick Post Implies Trade Could Be Coming
After two weeks, the New Orleans Saints have looked like one of the best teams in football. While first-year offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak deserves all the credit in the world for infusing life into a stale offense, the defense is also holding up their end of the bargain. Free-agent signee Chase Young is playing up to his potential, Carl Granderson is his usual reliable self, and 2023 first-round defensive tackle Bryan Bresee is making the Year 2 leap. This team should be able to get to the playoffs as currently constructed, but a Haason Reddick trade could make them legitimate contenders.
Passing offenses aren’t as dangerous as they were in years past, but defenses still need to get after the quarterback if they want to go deep in the playoffs. Granderson and Young can be effective in their current roles, but it wouldn’t hurt to trade for a third effective pass rusher like Haason Reddick. Cameron Jordan isn’t getting any younger, and his slow start to 2024 suggests last year’s struggles might not have been a one-year fluke. It’s still early, but the Saints look like they have that 2009 magic through two weeks, so they might as well go all-in on a Super Bowl.

The Kansas City Chiefs are 2-0 but could just as easily be 0-2. Patrick Mahomes is his usual reliable self, but the offense might not be up to its usual form. Marquise Brown will likely miss the season, first-round pick Xavier Worthy is adjusting to life in the NFL, and Travis Kelce looks like he’s slowing down. The Chiefs might need to rely on their defense if they want to win their third Super Bowl in as many seasons, which means they could trade for Haason Reddick. With 2024 first-round pick Felix Anudike-Uzomah continuing to underwhelm, Kansas City could use another pass rusher to pair with George Karlaftis and Chris Jones.
The only question is whether the Jets would be willing to trade Haason Reddick to an elite contender like the Chiefs. The Saints are an NFC team, so the only way that trade could come back to haunt them is if both teams make the Super Bowl. Kansas City, however, represents a direct threat to the all-in Jets. Even if they could get a good pick for his services, New York would probably prefer Reddick not play at all than play for the AFC’s top team.
