The most volatile position in fantasy football, the 2024 dynasty running back rankings include tiers to move within and around to acquire draft capital and a little security for the future. It wasn’t long ago that Isiah Pacheco was undrafted in many rookie drafts, and now is comfortably an RB2 for most rosters. Let’s dive into the 2024 dynasty running back rankings with tiers.
Note: * is a player to target for rebuilding teams, but has more risk. ^ is a player to target for contending teams but is unlikely to provide much value in 2025 and beyond.
2024 Dynasty Running Back Rankings (With Rookies and Tiers)
Clydesdales
- Bijan Robinson
- Breece Hall
These are the two running backs that provide the perfect blend of win now and win later. Teams with Hall or Robinson on their roster are likely already competing and just need some veterans to fill in the gaps around them. Flip-flop them, debate them however you’d like, but these are the top two comfortably. It’s unlikely anyone will approach this tier until the 2025 class hits the ground running.

PPR Machines
- Jahmyr Gibbs
- Christian McCaffrey
There’s not a better option for win now teams than McCaffrey. In 2023 he scored enough points on the ground to be the RB13. That’s if we throw away every single receiving point scored. He’s a cheat code while he plays, and he’s likely got three more years left in the tank. Most fantasy managers are hoping that Gibbs takes off in the same way, but he’ll likely be in the RB6-15 range in points scored for the foreseeable future.

RB1 to Feel Good About
- Travis Etienne
- Jonathan Taylor
- Saquon Barkley^
- Jonathon Brooks*
- Kenneth Walker
- Rachaad White
- De’Von Achane
This tier has everything from elite running backs tied to mobile quarterbacks who could cap their upside, all the way to super efficient rushers who we just wish would get more work. Achane is lightning in a bottle with a chance to go yard every time he touches the ball. There’s a chance Brooks jumps to the top of this tier by the season’s end purely off of age and an RB2 season.
Cautious Optimism
- James Cook
- Kyren Williams
- Isiah Pacheco
- D’Andre Swift
- Trey Benson*
Every player on this list could lose their job in 2025 with how loaded the class is, or contract insecurity. Williams already has a young buck chomping at his heels. Benson projects to be the Cardinals starter in 2025 and beyond, and has the entire toolkit to be viable for fantasy football. This is where the 2024 dynasty running back rankings get concerning quickly.
Old Pickup Trucks and Bounce Back Potential
- Tyjae Spears*
- Joe Mixon^
- Alvin Kamara^
- Derrick Henry^
- Najee Harris
- Jaylen Warren
- Javonte Williams*
- David Montgomery
- Rhamondre Stevenson
- Josh Jacobs
- Brian Robinson^
Points now? Kamara Henry and Mixon all make a ton of sense. Points later with a chance at points now? Spears and Williams are probably the best backs on their rosters, but carry a considerable amount of risk. Josh Jacobs just signed a shiny new deal in Green Bay, but that system loves to use two backs and it’s unlikely he gets the same volume he was in Las Vegas.
Job Hunters and Replacement Backs
- Blake Corum
- Zamir White
- Tony Pollard
- Kendre Miller*
- Zach Charbonnet
- James Conner^
- Marshawn Lloyd
- Jaylen Wright
- Aaron Jones^
- Devin Singletary
- Zach Moss
Some of these players are just the only backs with projectable touches on their team (Moss, Singletary, White). Some of these backs will have dynasty managers cheering for touches and hoping the starter gets traded. Jones is one of the lowest of the win now running backs, but his pass catching skillset should age gracefully in a pass heavy offense.
Nick Chubb
- Nick Chubb
Chubb’s calling card for years was his homerun ability, elite contact balance and getting enough touches on the ground to make up for his lack of usage in the air. Now he’s 28 (he’ll turn 29 late in the season) and coming off of a catastrophic knee injury. He’s unlikely to help win now teams early in the season, and lacks the true upside to help win now teams later in the year as well. He’s fine as an IR stash RB3, but hoping for him to save someone’s season is a poor bet to make.
The Blob of Hope
- Jerome Ford
- Raheem Mostert^
- Gus Edwards
- Tyler Allgeier
- Kimani Vidal
- Audric Estime
- Antonio Gibson
- Roschon Johnson
- Bucky Irving
- Austin Ekeler
- Chuba Hubbard
- Raheem Ali*
- Tank Bigsby
- Jaleel McLaughlin
- Keaton Mitchell
- Braelon Allen
Whether trying to find the lead back in a gross running back room, or a backup for a back that is likely to dominate the touches, this tier is all an injury away from being relevant. Mostert probably deserves to be higher, but Miami can’t help themselves from drafting backs with speed. Outside of an injury to the lead back or a serious surprise from these players, they’re just on the bench waiting for their turn.
