Brock Bowers 2024 NFL Draft Profile

Brock Bowers is a unicorn. You don’t have to be a Dawg Nation member or a Southeastern Conference fan to know that. Bowers is a difference-maker and, at times, doesn’t seem to be human. Georgia was 42-2 with Bowers in the lineup. He led the team in each of his three seasons in receptions, yards, and touchdowns.

Brock Bowers Resets Freshman Records

Bowers’s senior season was canceled in California due to the COVID-19 pandemic. That didn’t stop him from rewriting the record books as a freshman and helping Georgia win its first national championship in 41 years. Todd Monken found new and creative ways to use the “12 personal” to exploit Bowers’s athleticism and fellow tight end Darnell Washington’s size.
The freshman achieved remarkable milestones as a UGA tight end, breaking records for single-season receptions (56), receiving yards (882), and touchdowns (13). His 13th touchdown set a new single-season UGA record for any pass catcher and extended Georgia’s lead in the late first national championship.

Bowers flashed his athletic ability in his sophomore season by rushing nine times for 109 yards. Three of those scores went for touchdowns, but none were more electric than his 75-yard run on the game’s second play against Kent State. In 2023, Bowers continued to show his evolution despite only appearing in 10 games all season. Georgia was breaking in a new offensive coordinator and young quarterback, and Bowers was there to help steady the ship. What he meant to the team was evident in a Week 5 win on the road in a tough Jordan Hare environment. Georiga erased an early lead and battled back with the help of Bowers to stave off Auburn with a 27-20 victory. Bowers caught eight passes on the day, but none bigger than his 40-yard touchdown in the final minutes of the fourth quarter to seal the win.

Injury Shows Warrior Mentality

Bowers was limited to just ten games in his final seasons in Athens. He battled nagging injuries throughout the early part of the season but continued to strap his helmet on to help his team find ways to win. In mid-October, he suffered a high ankle sprain in Georgia’s road win over Vanderbilt. A high ankle sprain takes time to overcome, and some in the media and agents reached out to Bowers and felt it was in his best interest to sit out the rest of the season and prepare for the NFL Draft. As Kirby Smart told the media, the idea of sitting out and bailing on his teammate was just not part of his DNA.

“All it did was piss him off. He said, ‘I had people calling and telling me I shouldn’t play, Coach.’ He said, ‘That just drives me crazy. It makes me want to play more to prove them wrong.’ Smart said, “He’s not risking millions, guys. He has an opportunity to get more millions. Like, it’s the other way. It’s not the way because he’s a great player. The NFL knows people heal. They heal from that injury. They’ve had tons of that same injury in the NFL. All he did was go out and stamp himself as a warrior.

Bowers underwent tight rope surgery on his left ankle the Monday following the injury. He returned in Georgia’s statement 52-17 win over Ole Miss and played a significant role in their 38-10 on the road at Neyland Stadium. Over the two games, Bowers caught ten passes and had two touchdowns, cementing his legacy as a warrior in Dawg Nation and the minds of NFL Draft scouts.

Strengths

Weaknesses

  • There is only one.
  • He will probably not have his hand in the dirt on most Sundays. Used all over the field at Georgia and was a more than adequate blocker when called upon.

Draft Projection: Top Ten pick

Bottom Line on Brock Bowers

Who is the best player in the draft? Ohio State’s Marvin Harrison Jr. and USC’s Caleb Williams are both under strong consideration, but Bowers is definitely in the mix. He is a seemingly positionless player on offense that can see him line up with his hand in the dirt, in the backfield, or exploiting a matchup against a defensive back or linebacker split out. He continually performed on the nation’s biggest stage, shining bright in its biggest games and against top competition week in and week out.

NFL Draft Buzz nailed its analysis of Bowers. “Given his trajectory, Bowers is on track to be a dominant force in the NFL, ready to make an immediate impact for any franchise that secures him.” He’s been a Damn Good Dawg in his three years at Georgia. Bowers will no doubt do the same for a team and fantasy owners in 2024.
