2024 NFL Draft: Jordan Travis Scouting Report

Jordan Travis 2024 NFL profile

The Jordan Travis story is what sports documentaries are made of. Then it wasn’t. After signing with Louisville out of high school, Travis transferred to Florida State, his dream school. After two rocky seasons as a backup and short-yardage weapon, Travis was named the full-time starter in 2021. The beginning of the season was full of injuries and losses, but Travis turned it on late. The Seminoles, and Travis, had built up some momentum going into 2022. Over the next 24 games in 2022 and 2023, Jordan Travis became one of the best players in college football.

Everything changed in November of 2023. On a routine scramble against FCS North Alabama, a defender came down at an unfortunate angle and Travis’ leg was bent the wrong way. The air was sucked out of Doak Campbell Stadium. The injury took on a life of its own after the undefeated Seminoles were left out of the College Football Playoff. Unfortunately, playoff politics are the least of Travis’ problems. The injury to his leg will have a serious impact on an already iffy draft stock for him.

Strengths

  • Mobility and running ability, he is an excellent athlete for the position
  • He improved as a passer every year of his college career
  • Unique acceleration, can hit the sideline and pick up first downs after breaking the pocket
  • Escapability; has some of that Houdini ability
  • Stands tall in the pocket and delivers throw under pressures
  • He puts great touch and loft on throws that require it
  • Has done well to avoid boneheaded turnovers
  • Well-regarded as a leader by teammates and coaches
  • Goes through progressions and scans the field well
  • Shined in the biggest moments

Weaknesses

  • Adequate, but not above-average, arm strength
  • Constantly banged up. Has had a multitude of smaller injuries
  • Catastrophic leg injury suffered in Senior Season
  • A breakout age of 23 is not ideal
  • Throwing motion and base need to improve
  • It looks like he’s aiming the ball sometimes instead of throwing it
  • Could benefit from making more anticipation throws
  • Height is fine, but a slender build is not ideal for a quarterback who takes on as much contact as he does

NFL Comparison: Joshua Dobbs

Projection: Mid-to-late Day 3 pick

Best Fits: Teams looking to throw a dart at the quarterback board

Bottom Line on Jordan Travis

Jordan Travis will go down as one of the best players in Florida State history. The future is murky, however. Before a career-altering leg injury ended his season, Travis was looking at going outside of the top 75. Now, with questions about his health and athleticism, Travis may see himself falling past the 4th round and into late day three. Unfortunately, those concerns cannot be assuaged anytime soon. He will likely be unable to participate in the NFL combine.

There are several concerns with Travis’ tape. So what is his role in the NFL? In a perfect world, Travis can get some meaningful reps in the preseason and win a backup job. With the amount of quarterback injuries the NFL is seeing, Jordan Travis has a real chance of seeing an NFL field. Last season, seventh-round pick Brock Purdy was playing by December. This season, undrafted quarterback Tommy DeVito has been starting for weeks. If Travis gets on the field, he will have every opportunity to prove himself.

Packers Defensive Line

Change Is Coming For the Green Bay Packers Defensive Line

Before the 2009 NFL season, the Green Bay Packers ran a 4-3 defensive scheme. But that changed when then-head coach Mike McCarthy hired Dom Capers as his new defensive coordinator. Capers brought with him a 3-4 defensive scheme. That scheme, or at least a form of it, continued to be run after Capers departed in 2017. Mike Pettine and Joe Barry both ran a form of a 3-4 defense. But now, with the arrival of new defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley, the 3-4 departs, and the 4-3 enters. The new scheme means that the Green Bay Packers defensive line will have some learning to do in this year’s training camp.
