In Week 14, the AFC West came up for grabs. The Kansas City Chiefs have lost four of their last five games. And that includes a loss at home against Buffalo in Week 14. Their poor play opens the door to the AFC West. And the Denver Broncos seem primed to be the team to walk through. With the Chargers and the Raiders lagging, it’s up to the Broncos to seize the moment. But first, beat Los Angeles in Los Angeles, which would require strong play and a solid strategy. RUN!

Coming into the Chargers game, the Broncos’ plan seemed simple. And it was run the ball, run the ball, and then run the ball some more. Recently, Denver had moved itself away from the run game. The result was three interceptions by quarterback Russell Wilson and a loss to the Houston Texans. And so, simple as it may seem, the team changed back to run-first, leaning on its future superstar running back Javonte Williams. The result was predictable. But it was perfect – 31 rush attempts and 106 rush yards. Williams had 20 touches and his first rushing touchdown of the season, which was exactly what the doctor ordered. And the Broncos beat the Chargers with relative ease.

SACK!

The next point of emphasis was putting pressure on quarterback Justin Herbert. And also converting that pressure into sacks and turnovers. And again, the Broncos beat the Chargers because they had success in this area. Los Angeles was sacked six times, and they turned the ball over twice. Denver’s defense is humming at the right time, headed into a possible postseason berth. The Broncos turn the other team over. Denver’s offense doesn’t turn the ball over to the other team often. And the entire squad appears locked in as they move toward the playoffs.

ATTACK!

And when the moment was right, Denver used its momentum to attack Los Angeles. The Broncos beat the Chargers by running the ball and sacking the quarterback. But they also won by attacking their opponent at the opportune moments. Russell Wilson had a 46-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Courtland Sutton. Tight end Lucas Krull had a 35-yard reception. And Javonte Williams had a 20-yard run. These big plays at key moments opened the door for a Denver win. And since they executed their strategy flawlessly, they were able to walk right through to victory.

The Denver Broncos Beat The Los Angeles Chargers With This Simple Plan

Regardless of the outcome, Denver’s turnaround this season has been shocking and impressive. Although there was a bump in the road in Houston, the Broncos continue to play like a playoff team. The Denver Broncos beat the Los Angeles Chargers with ease. And the game plan was simple all along. Run the back, sack the quarterback, and attack when the opponent least expects it. With another win, and with a record of 7-6, the Broncos are in the hunt for an AFC Wild Card spot. And with the Chiefs stumbling, even the AFC West isn’t untouchable.
