Week 6 Streamers

What a great week of football. Each week this column will analyze a player at each position rostered in 50 percent of Yahoo leagues or less. For reference, the threshold used for wins and losses in this article will be if the quarterbacks can score at least 17 points, if the tight ends can score at least eight PPR points, and if the rest can score at least 10 PPR points. Here are the Week 6 streamers.

Week 6 Streamers

Quarterback – Sam Howell (WAS – 34%) @ ATL

Sam Howell has become this year’s version of a quarterback who is far better in fantasy football than in real life. He takes way too many sacks and turns the ball over too much but those things aren’t penalized in fantasy football like they are in the NFL. Sometimes it’s almost beneficial due to the fact that he has to continue to drop back to pass more often. That’s exactly what happened this past week against the Chicago Bears. The Washington Commanders were trailing the entire game so they went almost exclusively to the pass game in the second half. That powered Howell to 51 pass attempts and he was able to produce 388 yards and two touchdowns with one interception. He also chipped in 19 rushing yards on his way to nearly 30 fantasy points. This week the Commanders take on the Atlanta Falcons who are not a strong defense. This game will also be played in a dome which is a nice boost to passing offenses. Howell is one of the better Week 6 streamers if looking for a quarterback.

Honorable Mentions – Gardner Minshew (IND – 1%) @ JAX, Baker Mayfield (TB – 19%) v DET

Running Back – Roschon Johnson* (CHI – 41%) v MIN

This is one to monitor as Roschon Johnson suffered a concussion on Thursday night, but assuming he gets cleared, he should be prime for a much bigger workload. That’s because starter Khalil Herbert also went down with a high-ankle sprain and is much more likely to miss this week than Johnson is. For what it’s worth, every player that has suffered a concussion has missed the following week; however, none of them suffered them on Thursday night, which gives Johnson extra time to get cleared for action. Fantasy managers are crossing their fingers because this is a guy that everyone has been hoping would get more work since the beginning of the season as he’s looked good in flashes. The Bears also get to take on the Minnesota Vikings, who are not strong on defense. On a week when the wire looks slim again, Johnson looks like one of the better Week 6 streamers at running back, even with the risk that he might not play.

Honorable Mentions – Emari Demercardo (ARI – 1%) @ LAR, Antonio Gibson (WAS – 49%) @ ATL

Wide Receiver – Josh Downs (IND – 9%) @ JAX

Don’t look now but Josh Downs has been sneaky good to start his rookie campaign. He has seen seven targets in three of his five games. He’s also had two games in which he scored double-digit fantasy points. This week was Downs’ best week as a pro so far after he caught all six of his targets for 97 yards on his way to 15.7 fantasy points. The yards and fantasy points were career-highs and the receptions were his second highest.

Even the underlying metrics look solid as well. Downs has had at least 77% route participation in every game, including at least 82% in three straight games. This week’s 30% air yards share was his best of the season and he also had a 25% target share and 26% TPRR. On the season, Downs has a 19% target share, 19% air yards share, and 20% TPRR. None of those numbers are elite but all are solid enough to be a fantasy useful wide receiver. This week the Indianapolis Colts take on the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Colts are likely to be underdogs so they should be throwing early and often. This should make Downs one of the better Week 6 streamers.

Honorable Mentions – Tyler Boyd (CIN – 48%) v SEA, Curtis Samuel (WAS – 17%) @ ATL

Tight End – Logan Thomas (WAS – 15%) @ ATL

Four recommended Commanders players including two featured: What could go wrong? This team is bad enough to where some of their players go under-rostered but good enough that they can provide fantasy production in a pinch. As previously mentioned, they were getting throttled this past week so there were plenty of pass attempts. That ended up being a big boost to Logan Thomas who posted season-highs across the board when he caught nine of his 11 targets for 77 yards and a touchdown on his way to 20.7 fantasy points. That allowed him to finish as TE3 on the week.

That makes three, top-12 performances in his four games played (he missed a game due to injury). As previously mentioned, the Commanders take on the Falcons this week and play in a dome, which should be a nice boost for Thomas and the passing game. On top of that, the Falcons have allowed the fourth-most fantasy points to tight ends so far this season. Add it all up and Thomas looks like one of the better Week 6 streamers.

Honorable Mentions – Dalton Schultz (HOU – 36%) v NO, Zach Ertz (ARI – 50%) @ LAR
