3 Week 2 Stars on the Dallas Cowboys Defense

The Dallas Cowboys defeated the New York Jets 30-10 on Sunday thanks to their defense. Here are the top three defenders from this game.
Dallas Cowboys Playoffs

The Dallas Cowboys defense dominated the New York Jets in a 30-10 routing on Sunday afternoon. While the matchup was slightly heavier on one side due to the lack of Aaron Rodgers, the Jets still have a solid team. Dallas kept that team mostly in check in their 20-point victory on Sunday, and these three players were largely responsible for the success.

The 3 Week 2 Stars on the Dallas Cowboys Defense

LB Micah Parsons

Death, taxes, and Micah Parsons. Very few things in life are an absolute guarantee, and Dallas has a star on the helmet of theirs. The Cowboys have found a unique way of getting their superstar talent involved, and it’s slightly different each week. Last week, Parsons dominated the run and thrived on solo space tackles. In Week 2, it was more about the pressure.

Parsons finished the game with two sacks, four tackles, and a forced fumble. He nearly came away with a touchdown after stripping the ball from running back Dalvin Cook’s hands. Parsons often came unblocked, pressuring quarterback Zach Wilson into making very panicked throws. One such throw resulted in an interception by safety Jayron Kearse. Whatever the Jets had planned for Sunday afternoon, Micah Parsons sniffed it right out.

Parsons is undoubtedly Dallas’ top defensive player, and he looked that way in the 30-10 triumph. He has put himself at pole position for the Defensive Player of the Year race. The Dallas Cowboys defense basically wouldn’t exist without him.

CB Trevon Diggs

Trevon Diggs sang sweet sweet lullabies to multiple Jets throughout the game on Sunday. Aside from Garrett Wilson, many of New York’s new receivers looked to be asleep with Diggs in coverage. The recently paid lockdown stud is playing himself into DPOY conversation with his fellow defenders.

Trevon Diggs recorded one tackle, broke up two passes, and stepped in front for one interception. While his numbers aren’t super flashy on paper, they are that way for a good reason. Diggs locked up every receiver throwing his way so much that he only saw the ball come his way a handful of times. His strong performance is just the beginning of another strong year for the veteran cornerback. He has yet to be called for a penalty in 2023.

Trevon Diggs will push the Dallas Defense to the moon if he continues this strong campaign. Look for another interception from 7 next week.

S Malik Hooker

The Dallas Cowboys have the best safety group in the NFL, and it showed once again. Malik Hooker’s impressive performance did not necessarily come with impressive stats. While he didn’t make the biggest flashy plays of the game, Hooker remained balanced and greatly helped Dallas come away with a win.

Malik Hooker finished the game with two tackles, two passes defended and an interception. A safe performance by one of Dallas’ most underrated defenders yet again. Hooker often found himself in the backfield, making plays on RB’s and pressuring Zach Wilson. His steady play is another testament to the foresight responsible for the current Dallas Defense. The safety position was once an afterthought to the front office. Now, the cowboys would be sore if not for Malik Hooker’s clinics.

The Dallas Cowboys dominated the New York Jets 30-10, dropping 70 points on the state of New York in two weeks. Look for another impressive defensive performance next week against the Arizona Cardinals.
