NFL veteran linebacker Devin Bush has signed a new contract with the Seattle Seahawks. Bush, a former first-round pick, has spent the entirety of his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Bush spent the majority of the 2022 campaign as a starter member of one of the NFL’s better defenses. Playing in 17 games while making 14 starts, the Michigan product finished his season with 81 tackles, two tackles-for-loss, two quarterback hits, and two passes defended. While he didn’t set the world on fire, the linebacker was a solid starter and finished the year with a 58.8 PFF grade.

Devin Bush originally entered the NFL as a first-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. Selected 10th overall by the Pittsburgh Steelers, the organization traded up to ensure that the Michigan product wouldn’t fall to another team. Early on, that aggression paid off, as Bush immediately made a huge impact on the defense. Appearing in all 16 games while making 15 starts, the rookie finished his inaugural season with two interceptions, one sack, 109 tackles, nine tackles-for-loss, two quarterback hits, four passes defended, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery. This impressive debut earned him a third-place finish in the Defensive Rookie of the Year voting.

Unfortunately, Bush was never able to recapture his rookie magic. The linebacker kept his starting job heading into 2020, but he only played in five games thanks to an ACL injury. During his limited time on the field, Bush recorded 26 tackles, no tackles-for-loss, two quarterback hits, one sack, and three passes defended.

Bush returned to the starting lineup in 2021, but lacked the same burst as before. Starting and appearing in 14 games, the Michigan product finished his season with 70 tackles, two tackles-for-loss, four quarterback hits, four passes defended, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and two sacks. Following the season, the Steelers declined the fifth-year option in his contract, allowing Devin Bush to hit free agency after the 2022 season.
