Lorenzo Carter Signs Contract With Atlanta Falcons

NFL veteran edge defender Lorenzo Carter has signed a new contract with the Atlanta Falcons. Carter, a former third-round pick, spent the 2022 season with the Atlanta Falcons but has also played for the New York Giants.

Lorenzo Carter, Atlanta Falcons, Agree to Contract

During his first year with the Atlanta Falcons, Lorenzo Carter proved himself to be a valuable starter and worthwhile free agent signing. Starting in all 17 games, Carter finished the season with four sacks, 58 tackles, six tackles-for-loss, 12 quarterback hits, and one interception. Unfortunately, despite his contributions, the Falcons missed the playoffs and finished the season with a 7-10 record.

Lorenzo Carter originally entered the NFL as a third-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Selected by the New York Giants, the Georgia product immediately came in and helped the team as a rotational edge defender. Appearing in 15 games while making two starts, the rookie finished his inaugural campaign with four sacks, 43 tackles, seven tackles-for-loss, and 10 quarterback hits.

Carter built off that promising rookie season to earn a starting job in 2019. Once again appearing in 15 games, the edge defender finished the season with 4.5 sacks, 45 tackles, six tackles-for-loss, and 13 quarterback hits. However, following yet another disappointing season, the Giants parted ways with head coach Pat Shurmur and brought in Joe Judge to replace him.

Unfortunately, Carter didn’t have much of a chance to prove himself during the first year of the Joe Judge Era, as injuries limited him to just five games. Lorenzo Carter came back strong in 2021, however, and finished the final year of his rookie contract with five sacks, 50 tackles, six tackles-for-loss, and eight quarterback hits. That was not enough to save Joe Judge’s job, as the team replaced him with Brian Daboll.

Since signing his rookie contract, Lorenzo Carter has appeared in 66 games while making 50 starts. While on the field, the Georgia product has recorded 18.5 sacks, 211 tackles, 27 tackles-for-loss, and 47 quarterback hits.
