Minnesota Vikings Are Having Their Best Season Start Since 2009

The Minnesota Vikings are having their best start to a season since 2009. Can they continue this strong play for the remainder of the year?

The start of the 2022 NFL season has been a successful one for the Minnesota Vikings through nine weeks of the regular season. Although Minnesota arguably hasn’t played up to its record thus far, the Vikings have still found themselves coming out victorious almost every week. They currently lead the NFC North and are at the top of the conference standings.

The impressive 7-1 record through nine weeks, which includes winning six games in a row, has not only put Minnesota in a firm position to reach the playoffs but is also one of the best starts in franchise history at the halfway mark in the season. Those seven wins in eight games are the best start in franchise history since the purple and gold did the same thing in 2009 and ultimately went on to begin the year 10-1 en route to a postseason appearance.

There is plenty of the season yet to play for the Vikings, but they are having one of the best starts to a year in recent history and could continue those winning ways for the rest of the regular season.

The 2022 Season is Minnesota Vikings Best Start Since 2009

Strong Start to 2022

Although Minnesota has won games in ugly fashion on a few different occasions this season, it is still ultimately coming out on top in most of its games wiexceptne. A win is a win at the end of any given week regardless of how that victory occurs, and the fact that the Vikings are continuing to come out on top in games even though they are not playing up to their full potential is a good sign.

Entering a Week 10 matchup against the Buffalo Bills, Minnesota has already taken down some quality opposition to this point in the year, including the Green Bay Packers, New Orleans Saints, Chicago Bears, Miami Dolphins, Arizona Cardinals, and Washington Commanders. The only loss this season has been to the undefeated and early NFC frontrunner Philadelphia Eagles in Week 2 on Monday Night Football.

Minnesota has an offense that ranks in the top 10 offensively so far this year to go along with a defensive unit that is around the middle of the pack in the NFL. That balance has resulted in the strong start that has propelled it up the NFC standings while holding a strong lead in the NFC North over Green Bay, Chicago, and Detroit.

The Vikings have seen a strong start to the 2022 campaign, and they hope this positive wave continues.

Can Vikings Continue Their Winning Ways?

Even with the strong record through nine weeks of games, Minnesota is still a team flying under the radar when it comes to being serious contenders in the NFL entering Week 10. But, if the Vikings can continue their winning ways, it will be hard to ignore the purple and gold any longer.

Over the next few weeks, we will learn much more about just how serious of a team the Vikings are this season with some tough opposition on the schedule. Following a Week 10 road contest against the talented Bills, Minnesota will host the Dallas Cowboys in Week 11 before matchup up against the New England Patriots on Thanksgiving Day in Week 12.

Following that stretch, the Vikings will round out the regular season at home against the improved New York Jets in Week 13, on the road against the Lions in Week 14, at home against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 15 and the New York Giants in Week 16, while rounding out the regular season at the Packers in Week 17 and at the Bears in Week 18.

Although the Vikings have been underestimated thus far, they are ultimately still one of the top teams in the NFC and the NFL entering Week 10. Behind its best start to a year since 2009, Minnesota is setting itself up nicely to return to the playoffs this season with the hopes of making a deep postseason run like that 2009 campaign.
