Week 2 Stream Team

What a first week of football. Each week this column will analyze a player at each position rostered in 50 percent of Yahoo leagues or less. This group of players is basically a dream stream team. For reference, the threshold used for Wins and Losses in this article will be if the quarterbacks can score at least 17 points, if the tight ends can score at least eight PPR points, and if the rest can score at least 10 PPR points.  Here is the Week 2 Stream Team.

Week 2 Stream Team

Quarterback – Marcus Mariota (ATL – 9%) @ LAR

It was an impressive Atlanta Falcons debut for Marcus Mariota. He didn’t pass for any touchdowns yet he still managed to score 19.8 fantasy points. He did so because he ran the ball 12 times for 72 yards and a score. If that trend continues, Mariota will be awesome in fantasy football. We shouldn’t expect that many carries and yards each week but even 5-8 carries and 30-50 yards per week would be great. He looked decent as a passer too, even though he had no touchdowns.

This week, he gets a matchup against the Los Angeles Rams. The Rams defense usually is good but they just got shredded by Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills. The most enticing part of this game is the overall offensive environment. The Falcons are 10-point underdogs and the combined total is 47.5 points. The potential game script should lead to more dropbacks for Mariota. This game is also in a dome which should help. It wouldn’t be a surprise to look up at the end of the game and see Mariota with 20+ fantasy points which makes him one of the better Week 2 Stream Team candidates.

Honorable Mentions – Carson Wentz (WAS – 13%) @ DET, Daniel Jones (NYG – 25%) v CAR

Running Back – Jeff Wilson Jr. (SF – 16%) v SEA

Elijah Mitchell left with a knee injury on Sunday that sounds like it is going to be a multi-week absence. That is going to make Jeff Wilson Jr. the big prize in free agency this week. After Mitchell went down, Wilson Jr. handled 76% of the running back snaps. That is extremely encouraging and a good sign that he will likely see something close to that this week against the Seattle Seahawks. In that case, he should be able to handle 15+ touches.

The matchup against the Seahawks should be a great one as well. The San Francisco 49ers are currently 8.5-point favorites with an implied team total of 25.5 points. Both of those numbers are near the top for the week. The projected game script should be one in which the 49ers are leading and running the ball a lot, much to the benefit of Wilson Jr. All of these things combined make him an awesome Week 2 Stream Team choice for those needing a running back.

Honorable Mentions – Rex Burkhead (HOU – 13%) @ DEN, Jamaal Williams (DET – 47%) v WAS

Wide Receiver – Jahan Dotson (WAS – 23%) @ DET

Jahan Dotson had arguably the most promising and impressive debut of any of the rookie wide receivers. He scored 18 fantasy points, the most among all rookies. Dotson did so by catching three of his five targets for 40 yards and two touchdowns. He also had a carry that lost 10 yards. The Washington Commanders clearly view Dotson as an impact player and that showed on Sunday. He was out there for 90% of the routes, a huge number, especially for a rookie. Should that continue, Dotson should be able to be a consistent and important piece of this offense.

This week, he gets a juicy matchup against the Detroit Lions. The Lions just got destroyed by the Philadelphia Eagles. This game is also being played in a dome in Detroit which should help as well. Expect Dotson to be a hot name off the waiver wire in most leagues and he makes for a great wide receiver choice for the Week 2 Stream Team.

Honorable Mentions – Curtis Samuel (WAS – 6%) @ DET, Jakobi Meyers (NE – 38%) @ PIT

Tight End – Logan Thomas (WAS – 6%) @ DET

It’s a small miracle that Logan Thomas is even playing at this point considering the injury he suffered at the very end of last season. He tore his ACL in Week 13 last year and reports were that he may not be ready to start the season. Not only was Thomas ready, but he also drew six targets and caught three of them for 45 yards. While he only had 7.5 fantasy points, it was the six targets that were most encouraging. That was tied for 11th most among all tight ends. If Thomas can continue to be this involved, he should only get better as he works his way back towards pre-injury form.

As previously mentioned, the matchup this week is juicy against the Lions and in a dome. Unless you have one of the top six or top seven tight ends, you should always be looking to take fliers on encouraging tight ends with upside. That is exactly what Thomas is which makes him a great Week 2 Stream Team candidate.

Honorable Mentions – Robert Tonyan (GB – 24%) v CHI, Evan Engram (JAX – 25%) v IND
