Kyle Van Noy, Los Angeles Chargers, Expected to Agree to Contract
Kyle Van Noy is coming off of yet another solid season with the New England Patriots. Appearing in 16 games while making eight starts, the linebacker finished his season with five sacks, seven quarterback hits, 66 tackles, one interception, and two forced fumbles. Despite the solid season, the cash-strapped New England Patriots cut the veteran linebacker prior to the start of free agency.
Van Noy initially entered the NFL as a second-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. Selected by the Detroit Lions, the BYU product struggled to make much of an impact in the Motor City. During his rookie season, Van Noy recorded just six tackles in eight games. He wasn’t any better during his second year in the pros, as Van Noy recorded just 10 tackles and one sack in 15 games.
Van Noy began his 2016 season with the Detroit Lions before joining the New England Patriots at the trade deadline. Following the trade of Jamie Collins, the Patriots essentially used Van Noy to replace the departed linebacker in the defense. The former second-round pick was up for the task, recording one sack, 29 tackles, and one interception during his seven regular season games in New England. He continued to play a big role down the stretch and helped the Patriots win their fifth Super Bowl title.
Van Noy continued to find success in New England before striking it big in free agency. Signing a mega deal prior to the 2020 season, the linebacker spent one year with the Miami Dolphins. During his time down south, Van Noy recorded six sacks, 69 tackles, 10 quarterback hits, and two forced fumbles.
