Week 9 Stream Team

Week 9 is here and it’s basically halfway through the season already. Each week this column will analyze a player at each position rostered in 50 percent of Yahoo leagues or less. This group of players is basically a dream stream team. For reference, the threshold used for Wins and Losses in this article will be if the quarterbacks can score at least 17 points, if the tight ends can score at least eight PPR points, and if the rest can score at least 10 PPR points. Here is the Week 9 stream team.

Week 9 Stream Team

Quarterback – Taysom Hill (NO – 2%) v ATL

Taysom Hill hasn’t played much after Jameis Winston won the starting quarterback job this season. Hill has also been sidelined by injury as well so make sure he’s active and starting for this one. If he is, he definitely deserves streamer consideration and more. Hill is an intriguing fantasy option at quarterback because of the damage he can do on the ground.

Just last year he rushed 87 times for 457 yards and eight rushing touchdowns. That was only in a few starts as well. Granted he was used as a runner in other games too but this is the type of production that can be extremely valuable in fantasy.

Should he be able to make the start, it’s a soft landing spot here against the Atlanta Falcons. Atlanta has allowed the third-most fantasy points to quarterbacks so far this season. This game will also be played at home, in a dome, and as six-point favorites. It all sets up as a perfect spot for Hill to make his first start of the season.

Honorable Mentions – Tua Tagovailoa (MIA – 35%) v HOU, Teddy Bridgewater (DEN – 30%) @ DAL

Running Back – Jeremy McNichols (TEN – 9%) @ LAR

While many people will be rushing to the wire to acquire newly signed Adrian Peterson, Jeremy McNichols might actually be the better grab, particularly in full PPR leagues. As was widely reported, the big dog, Derrick Henry, underwent foot surgery that will likely keep him out for six weeks at the very least. Henry was in the midst of another incredible season.

There’s nobody on this Tennessee Titans team that will single-handedly replace him, so it’s likely they will try to do it with a committee approach. McNichols has an advantage over Peterson in that he’s been on the roster the entire year. He also is a much better pass-catching option so it’s very likely he will get the majority, if not all, of the snap and touch shares in those situations.

Peterson should be expected to be an early-down grinder at this point and probably see some goalline work as well. His role will still be valuable as well, especially in non-PPR leagues and in games where the game script is likely in Tennessee’s favor. That doesn’t appear likely to be the case this week against the Los Angeles Rams. The Rams are currently 7.5-point favorites. If the Rams are able to get an early lead, McNichols may be very busy, especially in Peterson’s first active game in a while.

Honorable Mentions – Boston Scott (PHI – 21%) v LAC, Carlos Hyde (JAX – 7%) v BUF

Wide Receiver – DeVante Parker (MIA – 38%) v HOU

After missing three straight games with a nagging hamstring injury, DeVante Parker returned last week to a big role. Parker alternated seven and nine target games for the first month of the season before going down with the hamstring injury. He then missed the following three weeks but returned to see 11 targets this week. Parker turned those into eight catches for 85 yards, both season-highs. His target share was 28.2% and sits at 21.9% on the season.

It’s clear that as long as he’s healthy, he’s going to have a sizable role in this offense, especially with Will Fuller still out. This week he gets a juicy matchup against the Houston Texans. The Texans are one of the worst defenses in the NFL. They’ve been a bit more beatable on the ground than through the air but they can’t stop opposing offenses either way and some of that is simply a product of teams getting a lead and running more often.

The Miami Dolphins are also favored and have a nice 26-point implied total in this one. Assuming Parker sees another healthy target share, he should be able to produce nicely in this one making him one of the best Week 9 stream team options.

Honorable Mentions – Hunter Renfrow (LV – 42%) @ NYG, Rashod Bateman (BAL – 31%) v MIN

Tight End – Dan Arnold (JAX – 5%) v BUF

Dan Arnold has gone from being traded, to being the premier punt play of the week in DraftKings, to being a solid streaming option all within the span of a month or so. What a journey he’s been on and what a time to be alive.

The craziest part about it is how much he’s been used by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Arnold now has 23 targets over the past three weeks, which is tied with Marvin Jones Jr for the team lead and has led the team in targets in two of those games. It’s almost mind-blowing how often he’s been targeted considering how little Laviska Shenault Jr. has been used.

Either way, it’s apparent that Urban Meyer likes Arnold and wants to utilize him as a pass-catching weapon. That’s an advantageous situation to be in on a team that is likely to be losing and throwing, early and often. This week against the Buffalo Bills should be no different. The Bills are a tough defense but the game script should be in Arnold’s favor in this one. It also wouldn’t be surprising at all if the Bills focused more attention on Jones and Shenault, which could allow Arnold to see another lofty target total.

Honorable Mentions – Tyler Conklin (MIN – 25%) @ BAL, Pat Freiermuth (PIT – 11%) v CHI
