Dak Prescott Rumors

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott suffered a shoulder injury early in training camp and, according to the latest NFL rumors, might not be 100% at any point during the season. In other news, Sean Payton announced that Jameis Winston is going to start the second preseason game, while Mitchell Trubisky is making his long-awaited return to Chicago.

NFL Rumors: Dak Prescott, Jameis Winston, Mitchell Trubisky

Dak Prescott Might Not Be 100% In 2021

Like just about every other team in the league, the Dallas Cowboys will go as far as their quarterback can bring them. When at his best, Dak Prescott is one of the best passers in the game and is easily capable of leading a team on a deep postseason run. However, Prescott might not be at his best at any point in 2021.

During the Chiefs-Cardinals preseason game, ESPN’s Adam Schefter hopped on the airwaves to say that Prescott “is not fully back, [and] may not be fully back all season long”. Prescott, of course, is battling a shoulder strain initially suffered early in training camp and is also returning from an ankle injury that limited him to five games last year.

Schefter didn’t say which injury could limit Prescott’s ability in 2021, but it’s safe to assume that the quarterback won’t be firing on all cylinders early this year. It’s never easy to come back from a major injury like that, and it’s possible that Prescott’s mechanics will be a little off as he re-learns to trust his ankle and shoulder.

Sean Payton: Jameis Winston to Start Preseason Week 2

The New Orleans Saints starting quarterback job might just be the most interesting positional battle this offseason. Fighting for the right to replace Drew Brees, Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill appear to have equal odds of winning the Day 1 job. After Hill earned the first start of the preseason, head coach Sean Payton announced that Winston is going to start in the second preseason game.

This isn’t too surprising, as this was always the plan. While nobody knows exactly when Payton will name a starter, he always wanted both quarterbacks to have a fair shot with the starting offense. Winston and Hill had similar nights in Week 1, so this game could go a long way in determining the starting quarterback.

Even if Winston wins the job, don’t be surprised to see a healthy dosage of Taysom Hill throughout the season. The do-everything swiss army knife earned plenty of playing time when Brees was on the field, so it’s safe to say Hill will still see playing time with Winston. Considering the absolute lack of talent at the skill positions, Payton could use Hill’s unique athleticism to move the ball in crucial situations.

Tarik Cohen: Don’t Boo Mitchell Trubisky

It’s safe to say that the Chicago Bears want a do-over on the Mitchell Trubisky selection. Selected with the second-overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, Trubisky never played up to the draft billing. While the selection was a bad one in a vacuum, it gets even worse when you realize Chicago chose him over Patrick Mahomes.

Trubisky, now a backup for the Buffalo Bills, is set to return to Chicago in Week 2’s preseason matchup. While the fans at Soldier Field probably won’t welcome him with open arms, running back Tarik Cohen is asking Bears faithful to hold back their boos. Taking to Twitter, the running back said that anyone booing Trubisky is “lame and a weirdo”.

Despite Cohen’s pleas, Trubisky will probably receive a lot of boos. Chicago had a solid roster throughout Trubisky’s tenure, and a better quarterback could have turned that roster into a contender. While the ultimate blame for the selection falls on Ryan Pace, Trubisky will nonetheless feel the ire of the Chicago faithful.
