New York Jets Players on the Hot Seat

Here are three New York Jets players who are on the hot seat going into this season, and thus need to have a good year to cement their spot.

The New York Jets have started their OTAs, and training camp is right around the corner. After finishing last season with one of their worst records ever, the Jets have a lot to prove. There are also some players on the New York Jets who are on the hot seat this year.

There are only a handful of players who are guaranteed a spot on the roster in the future. Most of the players that general manager Joe Douglas signed and drafted during the off-season are in a safe position. But we have seen how quickly a roster can change in the NFL.

This article will discuss the New York Jets players who are on the hot seat going into this season.

New York Jets Players on the Hot Seat in 2021

Bryce Hall

Bryce Hall had a tremendous season for a fifth-round pick. He was able to start seven out of eight games at cornerback. Having him finish the season with one interception and 36 total tackles was one of the few highlights for the Jets. Also, he is arguably the best cornerback on the Jets roster as of this moment.

Being the number one cornerback in the room comes with a lot of pressure and expectations. If Hall is not able to meet these expectations, he might have to move to a different role. But, if he can become a true starting cornerback for the team, that will set up the Jets nicely for the future.

We have seen Douglas draft many defensive backs this off-season. So it should not come as a surprise that if Hall can not hold his own, then the Jets will move on from him sooner rather than later.

C.J. Mosley

C.J. Mosley was one of the biggest signings for the Jets in 2019. Unfortunately, Mosley has only played two games after signing his massive contract. It is a big year for Mosley to prove himself and show that he deserves the money he is making.

The linebacker group for the Jets is also one of the weakest parts of the team. If Mosley does not establish himself as the starting middle linebacker, head coach Robert Saleh will find a replacement. That replacement could be Jarrad Davis who the Jets signed this off-season. Douglas also drafted a couple of hybrid safeties who can play inside the tackle box. We can expect to see Saleh utilize these players if the current linebackers on the roster can not get the job done.

If Mosley can come into this season and play as well as he did when he was on the Baltimore Ravens, that would be a plus for the Jets. It would also show that he is well worth the money.

Connor McGovern

Joe Douglas has put a great deal of capital into the offensive line since he came to New York. Connor McGovern was one of his signings last off-season, and fans expected him to be the starting center of the future.

Sadly, McGovern was not able to live up to his hype last season. Maybe it was due to the poor offensive guard play he had. Or maybe it was the offensive scheme. Either way, there are no excuses for him this season if he does not meet the standards.

One highlight from McGovern last year was he stayed healthy for all 16 games. He is the only linemen who did this, and the Jets need that kind of stability. But Jets fans need to have the peace of mind that he will protect rookie quarterback Zach Wilson.

If these three New York Jets players can find themselves off the hot seat after this season, that would set up the team for success in the future. But if they can’t prove themselves this year, then it might be the last time seeing some of them in a Jets uniform.
