Overview

Born in Raleigh, North Carolina, Rountree III attended Millbrook High School where he completed 201 carries of 1,147 yards with 21 touchdowns. He also averaged 33.8 yards per attempt, with 338 yards on 10 attempts, as a kickoff returner. Rountree III was also Co-Offensive Player of the Year during his senior season. He was rated as North Carolina’s 31st overall prospect by Rivals.com. ESPN ranked him as a three-star prospect. Rountree III attended the University of Missouri.

During his first season, Rountree III recorded 126 carries of 703 yards with six touchdowns and five receptions for 57 yards. His rushing total was second-most in Mizzou history by a running back and third-most by a freshman. Rountree III also had 25 kickoff returns of 528 yards. He received All-SEC Freshman Team All-Purpose Return Specialist honors and was on the 2017-18 First-Year SEC Academic Honor Roll. He also received SEC freshman of the week honors. In his second season, Rountree III completed 225 carries of 1,216 yards with 11 touchdowns and 14 receptions of 62 yards. He surpassed Tony Galbreath in rushing yards making him #1 in Mizzou running back history. Rountree III was named to the 2018 SEC Academic Honor Roll.

During his junior year, Rountree III had 186 carries with 829 yards with nine touchdowns and 13 receptions of 70 yards. He passed 2,000 yards rushing, becoming the third-fastest in school history to do so. He also ranks seventh in the program’s history in carries with 537. In his senior season, Rountree III was named team captain and recorded 209 carries of 972 yards with 14 touchdowns, plus 15 receptions of 100 yards. He set the school record for a running back in career yards rushed. Rountree III accepted an invite to the 2021 Reese’s Senior Bowl.

During his pro day, Rountree III completed the 40-yard dash in 4.70, the 20-yard dash in 2.68, and the 10-yard dash in 1.73. He completed the 225 lb bench press with 18 reps. Rountree III did the broad jump with a 9″00, the vertical jump with a 30, the 20-yard shuttle in 4.47, and the 3-Cone Drill in 6.96. His hand measured in at 9 and one eighths, his arm at 30 and three fourths, and his wingspan at 73 and seven eighths.

Bottom Line on Larry Rountree III

Rountree III is an aggressive, physical runner who has the explosiveness and vision needed as a running back. The problem is that he struggles in the speed, agility, and acceleration categories that will end limiting him somewhat. He is projected to be a solid #3 or #4 option if he can improve his weaknesses and also become a receiving option as well.
