Cincinnati Bengals Re-Signed Clark Harris, Their Long Snapper

On Wednesday it was reported that the Cincinnati Bengals re-signed Clark Harris, their longtime long snapper, to a one-year contract, so he will avoid entering free agency.

Cincinnati Bengals Re-Signed Clark Harris, Pro Bowl Long Snapper

The Bengals will retain their longtime special team ace in Clark Harris. Harris was due to become an unrestricted free agent on Mar. 13, but Cincinnati didn’t let that happen. The team has reached a one-year agreement with the 36-year-old long snapper, which will keep him in town through the 2021 season. Harris spent one year with the Houston Texans in 2008, but has spent the remainder of his career in Cincinnati.

Part of Harris’ impact in Cincinnati has been his consistency and availability. He has never had an unplayable snap as a member of the organization. With 1,699 snaps up to this point, he is still perfect as a snapper. Further, he has been active for all but three games during his time in Cincinnati. Harris was rewarded for his efficiency and availability in 2017, and was named to his only Pro Bowl

He has also played the second-most games in Bengals franchise history. His 184 career games in stripes are second only to Hall of Famer Anthony Munoz, who played in 185 games. The longtime Cincinnati snapper also regularly makes appearances at fan events, signing autographs and taking pictures with the Bengals faithful.

Last Word

However, Harris isn’t the only longtime special teamer who is due for a new contract. Punter Kevin Huber has spent his entire 12-year career with the Cincinnati Bengals, and the team could extend him in the coming weeks. Huber is due to become a free agent on March 17th. Huber has 190 career games as a Bengal and has rarely received a snap from anyone other than Harris. While both Huber and Harris are older players, they have certainly played major roles in Cincinnati. The duo of special teamers makes up the longest-tenured members of the Cincinnati Bengals roster at the moment.
