The Seahawks have won the 2020 NFC West title with a 20-9 win over the Los Angeles Rams behind Russell Wilson and the much improved defense. This was the Seahawks first division title since 2016 and their fifth under head coach Pete Carroll. The Seahawks still have a lot to play for going into the last week of the regular season, and it will be crucial to their playoff seed in the NFC.
Seattle Seahawks Win 2020 NFC West
The Seahawks took a big step on Sunday in a quest for their 2nd Super Bowl title by winning the 2020 NFC west title with a their win over the Rams. Right now, the Seahawks sit at the number three seed. However, the Seahawks still have an outside shot at the number one seed in the NFC. The Seahawks will clinch the number one seed in the NFC with a win against the San Francisco 49ers, a Green Bay Packers loss, and a New Orleans Saints loss. That seems to be least likely of the scenarios for the Seahawks. The Seahawks will clinch the number two seed with a win and a Saints loss. Home-field will critical in the NFC playoffs.
The Seahawks have a number of different scenarios for where they will be seeded and who they will play. If Seattle stays at the number three seed, they will play either the Los Angeles Rams, Chicago Bears, or the Arizona Cardinals. If the Seahawks gets the number two seed, they will avoid the Rams in the wild card round. However, the Seahawks could still avoid the wild card round if they can get to the number one seed.
Home-field might be the most the important thing for the Seahawks and history backs that up. The Seahawks have been to three Super Bowls in franchise history and in all three seasons, the Seahawks had the number one seed. Also, the Seahawks have won 10 straight home playoff games. Their last home playoff loss was in 2004 against the Rams. Road playoff games have not been kind to the Seahawks since Wilson has become the quarterback. Wilson is just three and five in road playoff games in his career compared to a 5-0 home playoff record. The Seahawks have not won on the road vs the Saints or Packers under Pete Carroll.
The Seahawks best chance to make it to the Super Bowl is to get the number one seed. They are going to need a little bit of magic for that to happen.
