Top Three Green Bay Packers Wide Receiver Targets in Free Agency

The Green Bay Packers need a second, deep threat wide receiver to become that unstoppable team that Packer fans want to see. With the front office not drafting a wide receiver in 2020, the Packers were left with few reliable options outside of Davante Adams. So, here are the top three free agent wide receivers the Packers should target this off-season.
Packers Wide Receiver

Let’s face it. The Green Bay Packers need a second, deep threat wide receiver to become that unstoppable team that Packer fans want to see. With the front office not drafting a wide receiver in 2020, the Packers were left with few reliable options outside of Davante Adams. So, here are the top three Green Bay Packers wide receiver targets in the off-season.

Top Three Green Bay Packers Wide Receiver Targets in Free Agency

A.J. Green, Cincinnati Bengals

A.J. Green was once one of the top wide receivers in the league, but with multiple injuries the last couple of years, Green has not played as much and has been tagged as “injury-prone.” Now, with the Bengals having drafted Heisman winner Joe Burrow and incorporating a young offense around the rookie, Green looks to be the old veteran in need of a change of scenery. Burrow throws 67 percent of the time but Green seems to not be getting targets. Wide receivers Tyler Boyd and Tee Higgins have taken most of those targets which have caused Green to be visibly frustrated, even to a point where Green was caught on camera during a game saying “just trade me already.” Well, with Green becoming a free agent this off-season, he may get a new team. Green Bay is the perfect fit. He would get to play with a veteran quarterback in Aaron Rodgers in a win-now culture and could cause defenses to spread thin instead of doubling Davante Adams. But, his history of injuries could cause Green Bay to look elsewhere.

T.Y. Hilton, Indianapolis Colts

Another instance of a once-great receiver being out of place in a young offense is T.Y. Hilton. Hilton has also dealt with injuries the past few years but his significant drop-off can mainly be chalked up to Andrew Luck retiring abruptly last preseason. He was then stuck with a subpar quarterback in Jacoby Brissett and is now stuck with an old, past his prime, Philip Rivers this year. It seems like Hilton could use a switch. Who better to switch to than Aaron Rodgers? Hilton could be that receiver that spreads the field with Adams. If Adams goes deep, Hilton could be a short-yardage or middle yardage gain. Spreading the field would allow the Green Bay offense to absolutely thrive. Look for Green Bay to engage in talks with Hilton for a one or two year prove-it deal.

Sammy Watkins, Kansas City Chiefs

Possibly the best choice but maybe the most expensive would be Sammy Watkins. Once a top draft pick by the Buffalo Bills, Watkins now serves as a fourth or fifth option in the league’s most exciting offense in Kansas City. Watkins won a championship last season and restructured his contract to stay one more year with the Chiefs but I think he would want to see himself as maybe the second or third option in an exciting offense. Enter Green Bay. With Davante Adams and Aaron Jones being the first and second options on offense, Watkins could come in and be that lethal third piece the Packers need to run the table on the rest of the NFC. However, he will command a hefty price for how he has performed with the Chiefs. The price may be too high for the Packers.

What Will The Packers Do?

All three of these wide receivers would be great fits with the Packers. However, all three will cost them a fair amount of money that the Packers may not have this coming off-season. Will the Packers get a second weapon for Rodgers? Or will they stand pat in free agency? The Green Bay Packers have a critical off-season coming up.
