Amari Cooper Signs with Dallas Cowboys
Cooper has spent his last two years in with the Dallas Cowboys, but also spent time with the Raiders. His 2019 season saw him catch 79 passes for 1189 yards and eight touchdowns. He averaged 15.1 yards per catch in a campaign where Dallas floundered to 8-8. Amari was drafted from a juggernaut of a team in Alabama, and has since had some ups and downs in his NFL career.
Initially being drafted by the Oakland Raiders, now Las Vegas Raiders, Cooper was a good prospect out of Alabama. His rookie campaign garnered 72 catches and 1080 yards with 6 touchdowns. He had a rough go of it in Oakland, as he struggled to get on the same page as Derek Carr. Critics and fans alike thought Amari would “check out” of games or quit when he didn’t get his way. This took a toll on the Raiders locker room.
Cooper really began to flourish once the Raiders got him a running mate. They brought in WR Michael Crabtree to play opposite of him and it really helped. Before 2019, that was his best season, with 83 catches for 1153 yards and seven touchdowns. Halfway through 2018, Amari was traded to the Dallas Cowboys for a first round pick in the 2019 draft. Once he landed in Dallas, he changed the culture of a team in desperate need of it. He lit up opponents for the second half of 2018, posting outrageous numbers along the way.
2019 was Cooper’s best year statistically, and as a wide receiver in general. He ran his routes more efficiently and shook defenders more often. In the summer of 2019, Cooper’s contract came into question as to whether or not he’d resign. No offer from Dallas hindered his play though, as he produced like a WR1 all year.
