Michael Brockers signed a three-year, $30 million contract with the Baltimore Ravens. The deal carries with it $21 million in guarantees and keeps him with the organization until 2023. Brockers, an LSU product, spent the 2019 season with the Los Angeles Rams.

Brockers has been a key role player for the St. Lous, and then the Los Angeles Rams for his entire career. The 29-year-old defensive end has 63 tackles and three sacks for the team. He has only missed five games his entire eight-year career and acted as the Rams longest-tenured player on their roster.

Brockers played college ball with LSU. Like his NFL career, he didn’t necessarily light up the stats sheet with sacks. He only had two. But accumulated 79 tackles in his two years he got significant play time. His play as a run stopper was enough to make him a first-round draft choice by the Rams in 2012.

As a rookie, he fit right in with the Rams, appearing in 13 games. He had 31 tackles and a respectable four sacks from the interior. His sophomore year was one of his best statistically. Brockers racked up a career-best 5.5 sacks and 46 tackles.

In 2015, rumors started to surface of Brockers being on the trade block. His third and fourth seasons had some questioning if he would be worth the money he wanted. Instead, Brockers signed an extension with he team in 2016. It was a three-year extension worth up to $33 million, including $16 million in guarantees. Prior to that, there were rumors that Brockers could be on the trade block.

After playing his career at nose tackle, Brockers switched to defensive end in 2017 in Wade Phillips’ 3-4 scheme. His stats have improved since then, as he has at least 50 tackles in each of the last three years, along with 8.5 sacks. Yet, again the Rams entered 2020 in a similar position. And this time, the team was tied to many other big contracts, including that of Jared Goff, Todd Gurley, and Aaron Donald. This time Brockers made it all the way to free agency.
