Baltimore Ravens All-Decade Team 2010s: Special Teams

Ravens All Decade

The Baltimore Ravens season may not have ended the way they wanted in 2019, but the team has a lot to look fondly upon when reviewing their decade.

As winners of four AFC North titles, including the last two back-to-back, and Super Bowl XLVII, Baltimore has been one of the model franchises in the NFL over the past ten years. The Ravens have won the seventh most regular-season games and fourth-most playoff games over the decade while registering the third-best point differential. A number of impressive players have come through the Ravens’ facilities over the decade with a select few on their way to entering Canton.

This is the special teams for the Baltimore Ravens All-Decade team of the 2010s.

Kicker: Justin Tucker (2012-Present)

By the time Tucker decides to retire from pro football, there is going to be a lot of debate whether he is the greatest kicker of all-time. He’s played eight years in the NFL, has the highest field goal percentage ever, only missed three extra points on 301 attempts, a career-long kick of 61 yards and has a Super Bowl ring. It also took him over six seasons and 200 attempts to miss his first career extra point. Tucker is one of the few players, at any position, to have more first-team All-Pro selections than Pro Bowls. He had his most impressive season in 2016 where Tucker did not miss a kick (extra point or field goal), outside of one blocked kick — a total of 65 for 66. Kickers just aren’t built like Tucker.

Punter: Sam Koch (2006-Present)

While Koch may not be the all-time talent Tucker is, he’s still been incredibly successful. Koch has spent each of his 14 years in the NFL with the Ravens and has been exactly what you want in a punter. He currently sits sixth all-time in punts inside the 20, and 15th all-time in both total yards punting and yards per punt. While his numbers took a hit in 2019 as the Ravens only punted 21 times all year, Koch has been a rock for the Ravens and one of the reasons they are usually one of the most successful special team’s units in the league.

Return Specialist: Jacoby Jones (2012-2014)

The Ravens’ quest for finding a dynamic returner post-2014 has been a huge struggle. However, Jones was a different animal. He was one of the fastest return men in all of football and had a knack for coming up huge in the clutch. Jones had multiple significant moments in the Ravens run to the Super Bowl, with the biggest being his kick return touchdown coming out of half time (the longest playoff kickoff return in NFL history) and being the receiver on the end of the Mile-High Miracle throw. His 30.71 yards per return in 2012 were good for second amongst returners with 10+ returns and his two returns of 108 yards make him one of only two players with multiple returns over 105 yards. Jones will always be remembered as the second-most valuable player in Super Bowl XLVII.

Long Snapper: Morgan Cox (2010-Present)

It wouldn’t be fair to have two of the three members of the Wolf Pack on this team and then not include Cox. The trio has been together since 2012 and is widely regarded as maybe the best kicking/punting unit in the NFL. Cox has missed just 10 Ravens games the entire decade.
