The Jacksonville Jaguars are six days from facing the Kansas City Chiefs in their season opener. The city of Jacksonville is also facing a hurricane this week. Coach Doug Marrone told reporters that the team will not be practicing on Wednesday or Thursday this week due to Hurricane Dorian. That isn’t ideal for week one, but a necessary precaution.

Jacksonville Jaguars Won’t Practice Tuesday or Wednesday This Week
The Jaguars head coach has made the decision to shorten the team’s practice schedule this week. Of course, it’s understandable, given the current situation. Hurricane Dorian is a category four storm at this time and will potentially be at least a category three as it passes by St. Augustine. This news is sure to make for an interesting first week for the Jags. Will they be able to practice Thursday? Will downtown be flooded? Will the game still be in Jacksonville. These are all questions that will become more clear as the week moves on but are important to consider.
The current plan is for the team to practice starting at noon on Thursday. Tuesdays are generally an off day for the team so at this point they are only missing one day. The coaching staff has undoubtedly already been poring over their plan for the opposition prior to this week.
Perhaps more interesting than whether than the effect on the team’s practice schedule is the impact of Dorian. Jacksonville residents remember the impact Hurricane Irma had just two years ago around the same time frame. The San Marco area which is close to downtown was flooded as well as some other areas. If Dorian has a similar impact, it could be hard for fans to get to the game on Sunday. There isn’t any word on moving the location of the game as of yet. The most important thing is the safety of those in the path of the storm.
