Throughout this off-season, there have been multiple reports suggesting that Russell Wilson could be heading to the New York Giants after next season, but the quarterback views that as very unlikely.

Wilson is currently in New York to once again play spring training baseball with the New York Yankees. He also took the time to sit down with Jimmy Fallon, and the topic of the  Giants came up during their discussion. When asked about the rumors, Wilson was quick to shut them down and state that he doesn’t feel like the Seahawks will let him go anytime soon.

Contract Extension

In Wilson’s interview with Fallon, they also discussed the possibility of Wilson becoming the highest-paid quarterback in the league. Currently, Wilson is the sixth-highest-paid quarterback in the NFL.

The former third-round pick is scheduled to make just over $25 million next season. According to Spotrac, his market-value on his next contract will be worth approximately $32.1 million per season. That would then make him the third-highest-paid quarterback for the 2020 season, behind Matt Ryan and Aaron Rodgers.

For Wilson to receive the highest-AAV among quarterbacks, he’ll have to beat Rodgers’ AAV of $33.5 million. However, it’s uncertain as to what Wilson is seeking for an extension. But it’s unlikely that he would want to handicap the Seahawks ability to surround him with players he can win with.

Wilson’s Future

In his interview with Fallon, the Seahawks quarterback states that he believes that he’s capable of playing another 10 to 15 years. Wilson’s numbers do suggest that he could be capable of sustaining his production during the next decade or so.

Wilson has played in every single game with the Seahawks ever since he was drafted back in 2012. Which shows that even with his style of play, nothing has been able to keep him off the field. His numbers have also not displayed any decline, even with a run-first offense last season.

In 16 games last season, Wilson recorded 3,448 passing yards, 35 touchdowns and a QBR of 65.1. He was also named to his fifth Pro Bowl in his seventh season in the NFL.
