Buffalo Bills Wide Receiver Zay Jones in Police Custody

Zay Jones

Buffalo Bills wide receiver, Zay Jones, is currently in police custody in Los Angeles. The second-year wideout was arrested on Monday night after attempting to jump out of a 30th-floor penthouse window. As per the following video retrieved by TMZ, Jones was being restrained by his brother, Cayleb Jones, until authorities arrived.

Buffalo Bills Wide Receiver Zay Jones Arrested After Bizarre Incident in Los Angeles

To say that Jones has had a turbulent start to his NFL career would be an understatement. Despite being a personable player that was very involved in the community, Jones had a disappointing rookie season for the Bills. The team had traded up in the second round of the 2017 draft to secure his services, due to his record-breaking collegiate production at East Carolina. Unfortunately, as a Bill, the receiver was routinely mired in criticism due to his propensity to drop catchable passes and poor production overall (27 catches for 316 yards).

Given the lack of quality depth behind the team’s number one receiver, Kelvin Benjamin, many had projected Jones to enjoy a resurgence in his second year. Some attributed his lack of production on the recently jettisoned Tyrod Taylor and felt he could thrive under a new quarterback that was willing to make the difficult throws that Taylor oftentimes refused to make.

The following ominous tweet from Jones earlier this month clearly should have been a red flag:

The team made the following official statement on the Jones situation:

“We are aware of the incident involving Zay Jones. We are still in the process of gathering more information on the matter. At this point, we will have no further comment.”

We at Last Word on Pro Football will continue to monitor this story and hope that Jones is receiving the help that he so desperately needs. Our prayers go out to him and his family.
