Brandon McManus Signs Tender

Brandon McManus made 29 of 34 field goals in 2016, his third year as the Denver Broncos kicker. McManus has been the Broncos kicker since 2014, and he has been fairly consistent. As the Broncos primary kicker in 2015 and 2016, McManus has been accurate about 85% of the time. At face value, this isn’t the greatest statistic, but fortunately for McManus, poor kicking has plagued the NFL for a few years now. Teams can always appreciate the consistency of a solid kicker.

McManus ranked 10th in the NFL in both field goal percentage and points among starting kickers in the 2016 season. Excluding the Kansas City overtime game, which wasn’t his fault, McManus didn’t cost the Broncos any games last season. Having a kicker who will win you games (opening weekend) without losing any games is a gift of which most NFL teams can only dream. During the Super Bowl run in 2015-2016, McManus made all ten of his field goals which put him second on the list for most field goals made in a single post-season.

The Pennsylvania native had an extremely successful career at Temple University. McManus is the Owls’ all-time leader in points (338), field goals made (60) and punting average (45.4 yards). In his senior season, he was awarded College Football Performance Awards Specialist Trophy for the country’s best overall kicker. McManus went on to become an undrafted signee with the Indianapolis Colts. After being waived in 2013, he signed on with the New York Giants before being traded to the Broncos for a seventh-round pick. McManus has been through a lot in his career, going from undrafted free agent to Super Bowl champion in the time it takes some guys to recover from major injuries. McManus has a bright future ahead of him in the NFL.
