Riley Reiff Signs with the Minnesota Vikings

After the Lions picked up his option, Riley Reiff finished his fifth season with the Detroit Lions in 2016 and was voted offensive lineman of the year by his teammates. Reiff has been a reliable player anchoring down the Lions offensive line from the left tackle position over the last four seasons.

At 6’3” and 305 pounds, he has the ideal size for the most highly valued position on the offensive line. As a rookie in 2012 he was a contributor, but not a regular starter. In 2013 he moved into a full-time starting role at left tackle and never looked back. From 2013 until 2016 he continued to start at left tackle, solidifying the Lions offensive line.

The Lions drafted Reiff with the 23rd pick in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft. He was a three-year starter on the University of Iowa offensive line and a two-year starter at the left tackle position. As a guard/tackle in his redshirt freshman year in 2009 he was a Freshman All-American. After being firmly installed as the team’s left tackle, he was an All-Big 10 selection in both 2010 and 2011 and an All-American as well in 2011. After all this success, he chose to forgo his senior season in lieu of pursing his NFL dreams.

Reiff grew up in Parkston, SD where he excelled as both an offensive and defensive lineman for Parkston High School graduating in 2008. Reiff was highly recruited for both offense and defense, but chose to play offensive line for the Iowa Hawkeyes over offers from Nebraska, Minnesota, and South Dakota State.
