Report: Andrew Whitworth To Sign With Rams

Offensive lineman Andrew Whitworth remained of the the league's most reliable left tackles in 2016, despite turning 35 during the season.

Reports indicate that offensive tackle Andrew Whitworth will sign a three-year, $36 million contract with the Los Angeles Rams.  His new contract carries with it $15 million in guarantees and keeps him the team until 2019.  Whitworth spent the first 11 years of his career in Cincinnati.

Andrew Whitworth has spent his entire career with the Cincinnati Bengals since being drafted in the second round of the 2006 NFL Draft. That year the Bengals suffered multiple injuries on the offensive line and Whitworth was thrust into a starting position at guard early on. In 2009 he was moved out to left tackle where he was extremely effective. That year he started every game and allowed a mere five sacks. In the time since he has been selected to the Pro Bowl three times and named an All-Pro twice. Whitworth, a team captain, played the 2016 season on a one year extension. Whitworth has played an incredible amount of football. He started one hundred and sixty-four games in eleven seasons with in Cincinnati and started fifty-two games in four years a LSU prior to that.

Although Whitworth is thirty-five, he is playing the best football of his life. At 6’7” 330 he is the prototypical player at the second most coveted position in professional football: left tackle. Whitworth is a versatile player having played guard at different times during his career.

Whitworth was a part of Louisiana State Championship teams at West Monroe High School in both his sophomore and senior year. Following his senior year, he competed in the inaugural U.S. Army All-American Bowl in 2000. He signed with LSU where he redshirted in 2001. As a redshirt freshman in 2001 he started every game and was named a first team Freshman All-American. Starting in 2003 he helped his team earn a BCS National Title. He was first team All-SEC in both his junior and senior seasons.
