Philadelphia Flyers center, Morgan Frost will have shoulder surgery and could miss the rest of the season. The 21-year-old will head to the injury list after only playing in two games this year.
Morgan Frost To Have Shoulder Surgery
Frost was the Flyers’ top prospect coming into this season. He was needed early into the season when Sean Couturier went out with an injury. Coming into the season, Frost had played 20 games and had accounted for seven points in his first season. On January 19th, Frost sustained his injury after a hit by Buffalo Sabres defenseman, Jake McCabe. At the time, the Flyers ruled Frost out indefinitely.
Solving The Center Depth Problem
The Flyers now face the problem of having two of their top five centers out with injuries. While Couturier will return somewhat soon, Frost’s injury is a big hit to the Flyers’ depth. Look for Connor Bunnaman to step into a bigger role with Frost on the shelf. Bunnaman, who replaced Frost, is also young and has three points in 27 career games. Even with the injuries, the Flyers have had centers out recently with injuries and are prepared for this. Nolan Patrick missed all of last season with migraine issues. The Flyers’ former second overall pick is back this season and now will play an increased role with Frost and Couturier out. If he plays to his full potential, Frost’s injury might not even be an issue.
The Flyers currently sit tied atop the MassMutual East Division with the Washington Capitals. The team has won four straight after dropping two games two the Boston Bruins on the road. Wednesday night, the Flyers will host the Bruins who currently sit one point behind them in third place in the East Division. The Flyers will then travel to Washington early next week to face the Capitals. Right now, the team needs to survive these next two series and stay in the hunt until Couturier gets back.
