The Arizona Coyotes announced two new additions to its front office staff. Today they have added Matt Perri as their new Director of Analytics, and Lee Stempniak as a Hockey Data Specialist.

We have added Matt Perri and Lee Stempniak to our Hockey Operations Department as Director of Analytics and Hockey Data Strategist, respectively.

These additions come on the tail end of a busy period in the organization’s front office. Earlier in the month the team re-hired Coyotes legend, and fan favorite, Shane Doan as their chief hockey development officer. Well before this, however, their former general manager and president of hockey operations John Chayka had re-signed shortly before entering the bubble. This lead to the hiring of former St. Louis Blues assistant general manager Bill Armstrong to lead their new front office.
Stempniak is a former NHL player for 10 teams over his 911 game career. He bounced around the league quite a bit, playing for many teams for less than a season. Over his career he ended up in Arizona and played 100 games for them. Over his 14 years in the league he scored 203 goals and 266 assists for 469 total points. in 28 playoff appearances he notched three goals and three assists for six points in the post season.
What This Means for the Team
Additions to teams front offices are always a positive move for the team. Perri, formerly of Sportslogiq in Edmonton, Alberta, is responsible for providing the coaches and scouts with analytics they can use in their development and scouting of players in the future. He will also support the management with any potential staff and player personnel changes.
For Stempniak, he will be interring an entirely new position that is believed to be the first in any front office around the league. In college at Dartmouth, where he played during college, he studied economics. In his role he will fall back on his knowledge from school and his 14-year career to aid the team in communicating analytics and data to the coaches and players.
