Columbus Blue Jackets Sign Jack Roslovic As Part Of Blockbuster Trade

Jack Roslovic

The Winnipeg Jets have traded forward Jack Roslovic along with Patrik Laine to the Columbus Blue Jackets in a blockbuster trade. As part of the deal, Roslovic signed a new two-year deal with the Blue Jackets worth $3.8 million. The contract carries a salary-cap hit of $1.9 million.

Jack Roslovic Traded

The 23-year-old forward from Columbus, Ohio was the 25th overall selection of the Jets in the 2015 NHL entry draft. The 6′-1″, 187-pound right-handed shooting centre is coming off of his entry-level contract which earns him $894,166. In his NHL career of three full seasons with the Jets, he has done fairly well for himself. He has scored 26 goals and 41 assists for 67 points in 180 games. This past 2019-20 season he had his best season with 12 goals and 17 assists.  He played almost 15 minutes a game as his confidence has risen.

He is a reasonably good possession player with a Corsi For of 50.2, and a relative Corsi of 1.4. His shot is accurate too, with a career 11.3 shooting percentage. He was able to get off 117 shots this season and the results were evident. He knows how to score. It’s easy to see why he would be a good prospect going forward.

What This Means Going Forward

The Columbus boy is coming home. Roslovic has been in Columbus once the season came to an end for the Jets. He told Winnipeg he was not reporting to camp without a new contract. And then made it clear he wanted out as he wanted a bigger role. Well first off, Roslovic will need to pass COVID protocol before entering the lineup. While he is in the United States, he can’t play right away. It will be interesting to see where he fits into John Tortorella’s lineup. With centres Max Domi and Alexandre Texier ahead of him on the depth chart. Roslovic has the opportunity to be either the number one or two centre on this team. Plus a change of scenery will do him some good.
