Edmonton Oilers Sign Anton Forsberg, Alan Quine, Seth Griffith

Anton Forsberg

The Edmonton Oilers have signed goalie Anton Forsberg, centre Alan Quine, and forward Seth Griffith. Forsberg comes from the Carolina Hurricanes. Quine from the Calgary Flames. Griffith from the Winnipeg Jets.

Griffith, 27 had a good year with the Manitoba Moose of the AHL where he tallied 21 goals, and 20 assists in 58 games. He has had eight goals and 11 assists in 79 NHL games.

Anton Forsberg Signs With Oilers

This will be Anton Forsberg’s fourth team going into his sixth NHL season. He has played for the Columbus Blue Jackets, Chicago Blackhawks, and Carolina Hurricanes. He has played 48 career NHL games with a .901 save percentage and a 3.22 goals-against-average. During the 2017-18 season he was Corey Crawford‘s backup and saw action in 35 games with a 10-16-4 record. His .908 save percentage and 2.97 goals-against-average were not bad. The Oilers need a backup goalie to Mikko Koskinen since they are not keeping former backup Mike Smith.

Alan Quine and Seth Griffith

The Oilers fortified their front line with two forwards. Alan Quine, 27 had 14 goals and 32 assists in 38 games with Stockton of the AHL this season. He also had one goal in nine games with the Flames. In 106 total NHL games he has 10 goals and 18 assists. Seth Griffith, 27 had 21 goals and 20 assists in 58 games with the AHL Manitoba Moose. He’s collected eight goals and 11 assists in 79 NHL games.

Both of these signings give the Oilers some addition strength on their forward lines. They also recently signed Jesse Puljujarvi to a two-year deal so they should be set up front. They also added Kyle Turris with a two-year deal as well. There had been a weakness on their roster to have secondary scoring to Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. Not anymore.

What This Means Going Forward

The Oilers were attempting to sign Jacob Markstrom in net, but then so were many other clubs. Forsberg will be a serviceable backup and with the forward signings they seem to have satisfied their goals.
