After the Arizona Coyotes did not give forward Vinnie Hinostroza a qualifying offer, the Florida Panthers today signed the young forward.
Panthers Sign Vinnie Hinostroza
Vinnie Hinostroza signed with the Panthers. One year at $1 million. Good bargain bet.

The Chicago born, Notre Dame product had been with the Coyotes for two seasons. The contract locks him up for on year, through next season for $1 milion. In a full 68 games with the Coyotes last season, Hinostroza scored five goals and 17 assists for 22 total points. Had there been an 82-game season, he was on pace to finish with 26 points, a second-best season. The 26-year-old centreman/winger will be looking to prove his potential as a true top-six forward for Florida.
The salary for this contract is a decrease for the forward. Last season he was on a $1.5 million deal that he had originally signed after being traded to Arizona from the Chicago Blackhawks. That deal saw Hinostroza, defenceman Jordan Oesterle, and Marian Hossa‘s contract moved to Arizona. The Blackhawks received Marcus Kruger, Mackenzie Entwistle, Jordan Maletta, Andrew Campbell, as well as a fifth rounder in 2019.
What This Means for the Future
Hinostroza has always had the upside to be a true top-six forward in the NHL. This contract allows him to prove that notion in the upcoming season. Hinostroza, will look to prove his worth to the Panthers’ new general manager, Bill Zito. He will turn 27-years-old next year and will be eligible to become an unrestricted free agent.
Hinostroza was on the third line and swapped playing centre often. His win percentage at the dot was low, but don’t let that lower his value. He needs to improve from last year’s numbers and increase his offensive production going forward. Hinostroza played a little over 13 minutes a game, and will surely be used in an increased role this season.
