Mattias Janmark has signed a new contract with the Chicago Blackhawks. The 27-year-old had another solid season in 2019-20 with the Dallas Stars. His new team will look for much of the same. The terms of Janmark’s contract is a one-year deal worth $2.25 million. The news was announced Monday morning.

Mattias Janmark Signs With The Blackhawks
Janmark was a respectable contributor for the Stars. He scored six goals and 21 points in 62 games. That is his fourth straight season of 20 or more points. Janmark has only four NHL seasons under his belt so he has been a consistent, if unexciting, player for his entire career. He also scored one goal and seven points during Dallas’s playoff run.
Nothing about Janmark’s game stands out but having a bottom-six player capable or scoring 20 or more points every season is easily worth acquiring. He is not a physical player despite standing 6′-1″, 196-pounds but he posted a 50.5 Corsi For. Janmark’s possession numbers were eighth among Stars who played in at least 20 games.
Perhaps most importantly, he was among the Stars’ most versatile players. His zone starts were almost 50/50 with a slight discrepancy in favour of the offensive zone. He also played on both the power-play and penalty killing units. His previous cap hit was only $2.3 million which was tremendous value for someone who did almost everything except check.
What This Means for the Future
Nothing stands out about Janmark but his new team will love how much he has produced as a former third-round pick from the 2013 Draft. He is 22nd in points from that class despite being the 79th overall selection. He has outscored several players who were selected higher including Nikita Zadorov and Valeri Nichushkin. There is certainly a chance he might be an option for his new team’s second line after what he’s accomplished on a deep Stars team.
