The Arizona Coyotes have agreed to terms on a new contract with Christian Fischer. It is a two-year contract worth $2 million. Fischer’s contract carries a salary-cap hit of $1 million.

Christian Fischer Re-Signed
In Christian Fischer, the Coyotes keep a big fourth-line forward who can kill penalties and use his size. This season, he scored six goals and three assists for nine points, adding 16 minutes in penalties. His possession numbers are 43.6 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of -5.0. Those totals are lower compared to last season, where he scored 11 goals, seven assists for 18 points.
Over his four-year NHL career, Fischer has only played for the Arizona Coyotes and he’s completed his entry-level contract. During that time, he has 35 goals and 28 assists for 63 career points in 213 career games. He was originally drafted in the second round, 32nd overall of the 2015 NHL draft by the Arizona Coyotes.
What This Means for the Future
Christian Fischer’s scoring has decreased since his 2017-18 season which was his first full season. He collected 15 goals and 18 assists for 33 points. His average playing time has also decreased from 13:54 to just 11 minutes per game. He was a healthy scratch for 14 games indicating he needed to improve his level of play.
If he can get more playing time with the team, he will flourish as he has good skills. He can use his size in front of the opposing team’s net to screen the goalie and get deflections or rebounds. This could be a new beginning for the 6′-2″, 214 pound Chicago native.
This will be an opportunity for him to get a fresh start and work on his game more. He could blend in well with the new bottom-six players who the team recently signed.
