The New York Islanders announced that defenceman Adam Pelech suffered a broken wrist and he will need surgery to repair the injury.
Quite the run for the #Isles. This team is well positioned to do some damage next season, and who knows what tricks Lou will pull in the off-season.

Adam Pelech Suffers A Broken Wrist
Player injuries always come out after a team loses in the playoffs. The Islanders are no different. Unfortunately for the Islanders Adam Pelech’s injury is a costly one. Without him in the lineup, the Islanders fell to the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Final. For the Islanders, it was a tough ask to win without arguably their best defenceman. Prior to Game 6, the Islanders announced Pelech as a scratch. With Pelech out of the lineup, rookie Noah Dobson entered the lineup. While nobody knows exactly when the injury occurred in Game 5, however, it happened really early in the game. Pelech went on to finish the game playing 32 minutes in a Game 5 Islanders win.
It has been a tough season for Pelech. Not only has he suffered a broken wrist, but back in January, Pelech tore his Achilles tendon. The Islanders were afraid he was lost for the season. However, thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, Pelech was able to heal and recover. During the Islanders run to the Eastern Conference Final, Pelech recorded six points (a goal and five assists) while averaging 22 minutes of ice time. He was on the ice for all the Islanders’ key situations and not having him in the lineup really hurt even though they were just a goal away from forcing a Game 7.
Casey Cizikas Update
In addition to the Pelech injury, the Islanders had previously announced that Casey Cizikas had to leave the bubble due to an injury. After the loss, it was confirmed that Cizikas suffered from a detached retina that required surgery. He had surgery on Monday to repair the injury and will miss up to six weeks.
Can confirm it was a detached retina for #Isles Casey Cizikas. He had surgery on Monday and the expected recovery period is 6 weeks.
What a warrior.

Going Forward
What does this mean going forward for the Islanders? Well, the good news is both players should be ready to go whenever next season officially starts. Unfortunately, nobody knows when that will be. Wrist surgery will take time to heal. But for Pelech and Cizikas this is the perfect time to have those injuries taken care of. Both players are important to the lineup especially Pelech.
