Have you ever looked at a sports photo and thought of a funny caption? We have, and did a collection of some for the 2019-20 season. Now, we are continuing that with the NHL qualifying series which began recently. We are collecting some photos with humorous captions added to entertain you during this postseason play. Today we cover the Carolina Hurricanes vs the New York Rangers comic captions for the 2019-20 postseason.
Carolina Hurricanes vs. New York Rangers
Hurricanes Blew Away the Rangers in NHL Qualifying Series
In this qualifying series, the Hurricanes again showed why they are a tough team in the postseason. Sebastian Aho dominated in scoring with three goals and five assists. He was supported amply by Andrei Svechnikov who potted three goals and two assists. Svechnikov’s hat trick cemented the ‘Canes Game Two fortunes with a 4-1 win.
Then, Aho did his damage with two goals in the final stanza of Game Three to jettison the Hurricanes into the next round. Another hero had to be goalie James Reimer who made unbelievable saves to preserve the victory. How can you top a salvo of saves like this?
Hurricane Domination
In the end, the Hurricanes simply dominated in the last two games to eliminate the hapless Rangers who just couldn’t score. They only managed four goals in three games and one power-play goal in 14 chances. Not too many postseason games will be won with that low output from the offence. The Canes had two power-play tallies in 14 tries.
The Hurricanes certainly proved that they are a skilled opponent. When it is decided who they will face in the ‘real’ playoffs, their opponent had better not take them lightly. They have an excellent defence, superb goaltending and young guns like Aho and Svechnikov to keep their offence chugging along.
Watch for the ‘Canes from this point forward. They are a team on the rise.

Rangers Never Quite Got Going in NHL Qualifying Series
The main story here was the Rangers inept offence. Leading scorers like Artemi Panarin and Mika Zibanejad came up pretty empty with each one just netting one goal. When your star players don’t produce, the results can be devastating.
Anthony DeAngelo was not defending well at all. He was a -6 and sat in the penalty box for 16 minutes. That’s not going to help your club win. His contract is up and it will be interesting to see if the Rangers re-sign him or not. Even with his defensive deficiencies, DeAngelo managed 53 points in 68 games during the regular season. Those are pretty good numbers.
The Rangers goaltending didn’t do the job either. Henrik Lundqvist lost two games and allowed 3.52 goals against with a .901 save percentage. In the last game, Igor Shesterkin took over without any measurable results. He had a 3.10 goals-against-average with a .900 save percentage.
Lafreniere Dreaming
The Rangers now move into the possibility of acquiring the first overall draft pick since they have been eliminated. Their 12.5 percent chance may be much better than the odds that they could get by the postseason tested Hurricanes. The lottery draft will take place on August 10th, so until then the Rangers can only dream of landing Alexis Lafreniere... just as the other eliminated teams will.
Other than that, they will then look forward to next season with hopes that fans will be allowed to attend games if the pandemic goes away.
