In an interview with German Sports site BR24, Marco Sturm discussed his choice to return to Germany for the summer. The former National Hockey League forward and current Los Angeles Kings Assistant-Coach explained “We feel safer in Germany.”

In a brief interview in German, Marco Sturm discussed his plans to watch every playoff game from home. He explained that he will be “…doing my homework at home.”
The Kings coach also discussed his favourites for the National Hockey League playoffs which begin August 1st, 2020. Sturm tapped Boston, St. Louis, Las Vegas and Colorado as his favourites. A special note was made of Colorado Avalanche goaltender Phillip Grubaur with Sturm citing him as a reason Colorado will be a team to beat. Draisatl is possibly the top player in the league.

Special mention was also made of the Edmonton Oilers. Sturm had glowing praise for superstar Leon Draisatl. “Nobody hits more often, hardly anyone plays so intelligently.” He went on to explain that even with a special partner in Connor McDavid, Draisatl is possibly the top player in the league.

Marco Sturm has long been at the forefront of German hockey. His coaching resume in his native Germany includes winning the 2015 Deutschland-Cup title as head coach and general manager. He was the head coach for Team Germany at the 2016 World Championship, leading them to a quarterfinal appearance. He also coached the German National Team to a quarterfinal appearance at the 2017 IIHF World Championship. His greatest coaching success at the international level has been earning a Silver Medal at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games. This was after winning a qualifying tournament for Olympic participation in 2016.
Sturm, now 41 is a native of Dingolfing, Germany. He appeared in 938 NHL games during his playing career that spanned over 14 seasons. He played for six different teams including eight seasons with San Jose.
