Have you ever looked at a sports photo and thought of a funny caption? We have, and here’s a collection of some. If you enjoy this one, leave us a comment afterward. We will do a series called NHL Comic Captions by team collecting some photos with humorous captions to entertain you during this suspension in play… and perhaps cheer you up a bit. Today we cover the Detroit Red Wings comic captions for the 2019-20 season.

Detroit Red Wings Comic Captions for 2019-20

Dylan Larkin

Dylan Larkin was the Red Wings 15th overall selection in the 2014 draft. The 6′-1″, 198 pound native of Waterford, Michigan has played five seasons in Motor City. Over that span, he has collected 107 goals and 159 assists for 266 points or 0.68 points per game. He signed a healthy deal in August of 2018 worth $35.4 million over five years to lock him in as the team’s first-line centre for a while.

This season he accumulated 19 goals and 34 assists for 53 points in 71 games. Obviously the Red Wings were a horrible team this season and they’d just as soon forget it and move on to next season. Their 39 points in 71 contests were less than acceptable and you can be certain they will strive to improve next season. They do have the fourth overall pick in the 2020 draft after going in with an 18.5 percent chance of getting the first overall choice.

Whomever the Red Wings select, having Larkin to complement that choice should help the Red Wings going forward. It’s just that there’s a lot of progress needed to be made to get them competitive again. Larkin will be instrumental in that goal.

Tyler Bertuzzi

Tyler Bertuzzi had another consistent season where he almost duplicated his production from last season when he had 21 goals and 26 assists for 47 points in 73 games. This campaign he registered 21 goals and 27 assists for 48 points in 71 games. He’s an accurate shooter with just over 16 percent of his shots hitting paydirt. The team just needs to get him the puck more often. He has had only 260 shots on goal over the last two seasons. If that can increase, the team’s meagre offence which stood last in the NHL can only get better.

The 6′-1″, 199 pounds forward averaged over 19 minutes of ice time this season which shows the coaching staff has confidence in his performance. He has some grit too with 212 hits in 199 career games.

He signed a two-year contract in June of 2018 worth $2.8 million. That makes him a restricted free agent due to his age of 25-years-old. His production will certainly earn him a new contract. The Red Wings will have $35.2 million in salary-cap space but also have eight restricted free agents as well as seven unrestricted free agents to come to terms with before the 2020-21 season begins.

Jimmy Howard

Jimmy Howard had a nightmare of a season… there’s not any other way to describe it. His record of 2-23-2 has to be the lowlight of his 14-year career all playing in Detroit. The Red Wings were last in offence and defence which doesn’t help your goaltender’s statistics. Howard was left out to dry more than the entire team’s laundry. His save percentage was awful with a .882. His goals-against-average was even worse with 4.2 goals allowed each game.

There’s nothing Howard can do except try to wash it from his memory (good luck with that) and hope next season will be better. I mean, it can’t be much worse. He signed a one-year $5.1 million contract in March of 2018. That puts him as an unrestricted free agent and he could be done as a Red Wing. They have Jonathan Bernier as their starter and he’s signed to a reasonable $3 million AAV through next season. They still have Calvin Pickard who played reasonably well in the AHL with a 2.86 goals-per-game average and a .903 save percentage.

It seems Howard will either retire or seek employment elsewhere.
