San Jose Sharks Comic Captions for 2019-20
Evander Kane
Call Evander Kane a passionate hockey player, just don’t get in his face if you have something derogatory to say to him. He doesn’t take too kindly to that. Over the last two seasons, Kane has accumulated 275 penalty minutes which led the NHL each season. He’s one tough cookie.
He can also add some offensive firepower as he’s tallied 103 points including 56 goals over the past two campaigns. This season he added 26 goals and 21 assists in 64 games. Never afraid to hit someone (anyone) he has had 347 hits over the three seasons he’s been in Northern California. Kane has registered 13 points in 29 playoff games with San Jose.
He plays with an edge, but nobody can deny his talent. He just needs to exhibit more emotional intelligence when he hits the ice… or more specifically when he hits an opposing player.

“Hey that’s pretty slick Taylor, but can you fight?”

Brent Burns
Brent Burns has been in the NHL for 16 seasons and with the Sharks for nine. He was the 20th overall selection of the Minnesota Wild in 2003. The intimidating defenceman who stands 6′-5″, 230 pounds has had quite a career. In 1,113 games he has registered 210 goals and 484 assists for 694 points. This season his production fell off, as did his team’s plight. He had 12 goals and 33 assists for 45 points in 70 games. He had 16 goals and 67 assists for an amazing 83 points last season.
His decline may be attributed to his age of 35. Most players (Joe Thornton is an exception) slow down when they hit their mid-30’s. The other factor is he has averaged over 25 minutes of ice time over the past three seasons. Eventually, that will catch up with any player. He’s being paid nicely with the eight-year $64 million AAV deal he signed in November of 2016. The thing is, he still had five more years left on that contract putting him right up near Jumbo Joe’s age after his deal.
Since he’s on the ice such a large portion of a game it’s not surprising that he’s on the ice 43.4 percent of the time when the opposing team scores.

“Look, Antoine, I said you could feel my facial hair, but if you’re so infatuated with it… grow your own!”

Erik Karlsson
Erik Karlsson is another Sharks defenceman who is paid handsomely for his services. His historic eight-year $11.5 million AAV deal will put him at 37-year-old when it’s completed. Karlsson has been injured in each of his two seasons with the San Jose club. He has missed 43 games due to injuries. At the price tag, the team is paying him it is hoped he can be healthy next season. The Sharks will not be participating in the play-in if it happens since they only managed 63 points and resided in the Pacific Division cellar.
Karlsson still has lots of hockey to be played. It is hoped that he can help the Sharks regain some stature next season and that he can stay healthy to do so. Over his career of 11 years, he has 135 goals and 468 assists for 603 points in 736 games. This season he registered six goals and 34 assists in 56 games.
