Calgary Flames Comic Captions for 2019-20

Matthew Tkachuk

Matthew Tkachuk has been nothing short of magnificent for the Calgary Flames. That’s why the Flames signed him to a three-year $21 million contract just before the start of the 2019-20 season.

His statistics display he deserved such a contract when you examine them. His career totals include 293 games with 94 goals and 141 assists. Tkachuk has added 29 power play goals and 44 extra man assists. His physical play earns him respect in front of the opposing net and he tallied 34 goals during the 2018-19 season. He is an excellent possession player as well with a Corsi For of 56.4 and a Relative Corsi of 5.9.

One may describe him as “an all-around player” when you see what he does on the ice. Almost a modern-day Gordie Howe to some degree. He can fight with the best of them and can collect a “Gordie Howe hat-trick” easily by getting a goal, an assist and a fight in one game. His production this season has fallen off marginally where he had 23 goals and 38 assists in 69 games.

Tkachuk can only get better with time. The Flames were smart to tie him up with a three-year deal, but watch out what he’ll demand later in his career.

Johnny Gaudreau

Johnny Gaudreau exemplifies what a player without size can do in the NHL. In his seven-year career, he has collected 151 goals, 294 assists good for 445 points in 464 games. During the 2018-19 season, he dominated with 36 goals and 63 assists in 82 games. This season his production fell off a bit to just 18 goals and 40 assists in 70 games. He still had six power play goals and 12 power play assists.

There’s no doubt that he’s one of the fastest skaters in the NHL. And because of his diminutive size he doesn’t mix it up with opposing players. To see that he had only one hit to his credit this season displays his appreciation for other facets of the game… like passing and scoring. He leaves the heavy-hitting work to guys like Milan Lucic (198), Tkachuk (122), and Sam Bennett (101) when physical play is needed.

Gaudreau is a gifted player and is signed for two more years after this season with a $6.75 million AAV contract. He’s well worth it.

Elias Lindholm

Elias Lindholm was added to the Flames roster when he was part of a deal sending him to Calgary from the Carolina Hurricanes in June of 2018. The trade has really allowed Lindholm to blossom as a player. In 151 games with the Flames, he has tabulated 56 goals, and 76 assists giving him 132 points. He also has 17 power play tallies and helped out with 12 game-winning goals.

To further make the point that Lindholm has progressed well in Calgary, his shooting percentage rose from 8.9 percent with Carolina to 16 percent with Calgary. You might say his offensive light switch was definitely turned on once he stepped onto the ice with a Flames’ jersey on his back.

The Flames immediately recognized that they had a good player and signed him to a six-year $29.1 million deal when he joined the team. He has constantly demonstrated his worth for the long-term deal and the Flames have actually underpaid him to some extent.
