Cale Makar
Cale Makar is one exceptionally talented young player. Makar came on the scene when he appeared in the 2018-19 playoffs making quite a debut. In 10 games he scored once and had five assists. Not bad for a 20-year-old rookie. He didn’t slow down this season. Makar tallied 12 goals and 38 assists for 50 points in 57 games. He missed some games due to injury. At such a young age, the coaching staff of the Colorado Avalanche have all the confidence in the world in their defenceman. He averaged just over 21 minutes a game and was second in scoring behind scoring leader Nathan MacKinnon.
There appears to be a terrific future for Makar and if he can get any better, he will be downright scary to opposing teams. He seems to do it all. His possession stats are also amazing with a Corsi For of 52.8, and a relative Corsi of 2.6. The 5′-11′, 187 pound native of Calgary, Alberta is what can be described as a consummate player. That’s why the Av’s selected him fourth overall in the 2017 draft.

Nathan Mackinnon
Nathan MacKinnon is such a fast skater as well as a prolific scorer. When the Av’s selected him first overall in the 2013 draft they knew they had a good player, but now he’s bordering being a great player. He’s averaged 96 points over the last three seasons. One could say the Colorado club has invested well into him when they inked him to a seven-year $44.1 million deal in July of 2016.
One of Mackinnon’s abilities is his speed. He has one of the best first steps in the NHL. He isn’t afraid of shooting the puck either, leading the league in shot attempts with 318. MacKinnon has been right up there with Alex Ovechkin over the last three seasons, leading in that category twice over that time period.
When he steps on the ice the Av’s have a good chance of controlling the puck. MacKinnon has a 54.2 Corsi For and a Relative Corsi of 4.0. He literally makes things happen on the forward line. His value to the team makes the Av’s one of the top teams in the NHL.

Andre Burakovsky
The Av’s made a trade with the Washington Capitals to acquire the Austrian forward in June of 2019. He has paid excellent dividends with his solid play this 2019-20 season. He was having his best season as an NHL player before the season was suspended. Burakovsky collected 20 goals and 25 assists for 45 points in just 58 games. That’s 0.78 points per game average and he would have surpassed those numbers had he not been injured.
With Burakovsky’s increased scoring he is the most accurate shooter on the Av’s with an excellent 19.4 percent accuracy statistic. Still, he only took 103 shots, so his teammates need to get him the puck more often and allow him to turn on the red light with regularity.
If he can stay healthy, his improved play merely increases Colorado’s team offensive options. His possession numbers with a Corsi For of 52.9 and a relative Corsi of 2.1 shows he’s a good two-way player.
