The Philadelphia Flyers have signed goaltender Michal Neuvirth and forward Pierre-Edouard Bellemare to two-year extensions as both of their contracts were up at the end of the season.

Neuvirth has regressed a lot since last season as he only has a save percentage of .897 this season. He gets $2.5 million per season in this deal. Neuvirth is also only 10-9-1 this season with a 2.90 goals-against average. Last season he had 18 wins and .924 save percentage. It will be interesting to see whether he is the Flyers starting goaltender next season as Steve Mason‘s contract is also up at the end of the season.  Indications are that the Flyers will protect Anthony Stolarz and leave Neuvirth available in the Las Vegas expansion draft.

Bellemare’s contract will pay him $1.45 million per season for two years. He’s not known for his offensive capiblility but he’s one of their better defensive forwards and is very good on the penalty kill for the Flyers. Bellemare has just three goals and six points this season and his career high in points came last season when he had seven goals and 14 points. For his career, he has 16 goals and 32 points overall in three seasons.

Philadelphia remains out of the playoff picture but if Neuvirth can find the level of play he had last year down the stretch, they could potentially sneak back into the picture.

The Flyers would also make a trade on deadline day, adding Valtteri Filppula from the Tampa Bay Lightning for Mark Streit.
