Pittsburgh Penguins Nick Bjugstad Out Week To Week

The Pittsburgh Penguins announced that forward Nick Bjugstad is out week-to-week with a lower-body injury.

Nick Bjugstad Injured

As the Penguins took to the ice for their morning skate prior to their game against the New Jersey Devils there was a notable absence. Come to find out forward Nick Bjugstad was missing from the skate. Head coach Mike Sullivan announced that Bjugstad has a lower-body injury unrelated to his previous injury. Sullivan told the attending media he is week-to-week. He will not play against the Devils on Tuesday night.

Bjugstad last skated back on November 15th when core muscle surgery sidelined him until his return to the lineup this past Thursday against the Buffalo Sabres. It is unclear when the injury happened, but since the Penguins played back-to-back games this past weekend, it happened either against the Carolina Hurricanes or Washington Capitals. Bjugstad has missed a total of 43 games this season. That number will rise with the latest injury. In 13 games this season, he has two points (one goal and one assist).

Going Forward

With Bjugstad out of the lineup, Jared McCann will shift from the wing to the centre on the third line. McCann will be flanked by Evan Rodrigues and Patric Hornqvist. While Sam Lafferty will draw back into the lineup against Devils. Teddy Blueger will centre Lafferty and Brandon Tanev.

Not to say injuries come at the right time, but with the Penguins struggling, maybe they can get back on the right track. It seems the Penguins play better when they deal with injuries than having a healthy lineup.
