New Jersey Devils Fredrik Claesson Considered Day To Day

Fredrik Claesson

The New Jersey Devils have announced that defenceman Fredrik Claesson is day-to-day with a lower-body injury and will not play Tuesday night.

Fredrik Claesson Injured

When the Devils held practice on Monday they were missing a defenceman. That defenceman was Frederik Claesson as he was dealing with a lower-body injury. It is unclear when the injury occurred, but it happened during the Devils 6-4 win over the New York Rangers on Saturday night. During the second period of the game, the Devils scored four unanswered goals, one of which came off the stick of Claesson.

Since being traded to the Devils from the Carolina Hurricanes as part of the Sami Vatanen trade, Claesson first started off in the AHL before being called up. In the five games he has played with the Devils since being called up, he has two points (one goal and one assist). The points have come in the last two games (the goal vs the Rangers and the assist vs the St. Louis Blues) both victories for the Devils. He also has a plus/minus rating of 1. For his career, Claesson has played in 155 games recording 28 points (seven goals and 21 assists).

Going Forward

If Claesson cannot play against the Pittsburgh Penguins Tuesday night, the Devils have recalled Matt Tennyson from the AHL. This will be Tennyson’s second stint with the Devils this season. The first time he was called up, Tennyson recorded three points in 19 games. During practice on Monday, the Devils had Connor Carrick rotating through the top two defensive pairs. With Claesson not in the lineup, Tennyson will enter the lineup as the Devils do not have anyone else. Will Butcher is out for the rest of the year after having surgery on his thumb. The Devils defence is being stretched thin.
