Montreal Canadiens Tomas Tatar Injured

Tomas Tatar

The Montreal Canadiens have announced that they may not be without Tomas Tatar for long. Tatar was injured in the first period of Tuesday night’s 6-2 win against the New York Islanders.

Tomas Tatar Out for the Canadiens

Tatar was injured after taking a hit from Devon Toews in the first period. After taking the hit, Tatar crashed into the boards and looks to have suffered a shoulder injury. He left the game, tried to come back for a shift, however, was unable to continue. He had only logged 2:45 minutes of ice time before the injury.

In 68 games this season, Tatar has scored 22 goals and 39 assists for 61 points.

Over his career between the Detroit Red Wings, Vegas Golden Knights and the Canadiens, Tatar has scored 166 goals and 181 assists for 347 points in 575 games.

Tatar was originally drafted in the second round, 60th overall in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

Yet Another Injury for the Canadiens

It’s been an injury-plagued season for the Canadiens. This has greatly contributed to the demise of the team who had a lot of promise entering the season after posting a 96 point season in 2018-19.

However, this injury could all but finished the Canadiens, if they weren’t already done. The Canadiens currently sit seven points back of third in the Atlantic Division as well as the final Wild Card position. Losing Tatar greatly hurts their chances, if any, of making the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Tatar has been enjoying the best season of his career this season. He has managed to set a new career-high in points, surpassing his 58 points that he set last season with the Canadiens. This, despite playing 12 fewer games. His play lead to many trade rumours leading up to the trade deadline. However, Marc Bergevin elected to keep his leading point scorer as he is an important part of the roster moving forward.

The Canadiens next game will come Thursday night against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
