Mike Green suffered the injury in the Oilers game against the Vegas Golden Knights on Wednesday.
So far this season, Green has scored three goals and added eight assists for 11 points to go along with 32 minutes in penalties. His possession numbers are 46.4 percent Corsi For and a Relative Corsi of -1.6.
Over his 15-year NHL career, Green has played for the Washington Capitals, the Detroit Red Wings and the Edmonton Oilers. He has 150 goals and 351 assists for 501 career points in 880 career games. He was originally drafted by the Washington Capitals in the first round, 29th overall in the 2004 NHL draft.
Green has not had a lot of luck on his side over the past few years. After having been traded to the Oilers at the deadline, Green played in two games with his new teammates before injuring himself once again. Green missed half of the Red Wings games last season and many people wondered if his career was over.
What This Means for the Future
Although Green is not the player he once was, he is still a solid bottom-four option for the Oilers. Green plays a solid physical game that is effective in all zones. He is skilled at clearing the net from danger and breaking up neutral zone passes. The Oilers will certainly miss him on the backend but thankfully his injury is not long-term.
The Oilers currently hold the third place spot in the Pacific Division but need to get things rolling as the Calgary Flames are breathing down their necks. They have lost four out of their last five games. Their next game sees them welcome the Winnipeg Jets to town before they hit the road for three games.
