Montreal Canadiens Victor Mete Out for the Remainder of the Season

Victor Mete

The Montreal Canadiens have announced that they will be without defenceman Victor Mete for the remainder of the regular season after suffering a fractured foot. Karl Alzner has taken over Mete’s place in the lineup.

Victor Mete Done for the Year

Mete was injured on February 18th against the Detroit Red Wings. Mete blocked a shot from Alex Biega which fractured his foot. He left the game and did not return.

In 51 games this season, Mete has scored four goals and seven assists for 11 points.

Over his career with the Canadiens, Mete has scored four goals and 27 assists for 31 points in 171 games.

Mete was originally drafted in the fourth round, 100th overall in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.

Injury Riddled Season Continues for the Canadiens

It’s been the theme of the season for the Canadiens. The Canadiens have struggled through injuries all season which has basically destroyed any chance of them making the postseason. It’s the second time Mete has been injured this season. Before his first injury, he was enjoying the best start of his career lining up next to Shea Weber. Mete finally scored his first NHL goal and has managed four on the season after playing over 100 games to start his career without a single goal.

Much like Mete, the Canadiens season is essentially over. The Habs are currently sitting seven points back of third in the Atlantic Division and nine points back from a Wild Card position. With only 17 games remaining on the schedule for the Canadiens, the chances of getting to the post-season are slim to none.

With Mete out, Karl Alzner finally got back into the Canadiens lineup. He has played two games so far but has yet to register a point. However, Alzner has looked decent in those games, which is good news for the Canadiens considering the contract they signed him to in 2017. He has played most of the last two seasons with the Laval Rocket in the AHL and despite the demotion has carried himself like a true pro. This helped him earn another shot with the Canadiens to close out the season.

The Canadiens’ next game will be on Thursday night as they play host to the New York Rangers.
