Kailer Yamamoto Out for the Oilers
It’s unknown when Yamamoto sustained the injury. He played in the Oilers most recent game against the Los Angeles Kings. In that game, he logged 16:58 minutes of ice time and registered one assist in the 4-2 victory.
In 21 games this season, Yamamoto has nine goals and 12 assists for 21 points.
Yamamoto has appeared in 47 games for the Oilers since being drafted in 2017. He has registered 10 goals and 16 assists for 26 over that span.
The 21-year-old forward was drafted in the first round, 22nd overall in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft by the Edmonton Oilers.
Yet Another Injury for the Oilers
The injury bug has hit the Oilers hard lately. The club is already without James Neal, Oscar Klefbom, Joakim Nygard and Kris Russell. They got good news with the return of Connor McDavid on for Sunday’s game. However, they’ll now be without one of their top offensive players again in Yamamoto.
Yamamoto has been outstanding for the club this season while lining up next to Leon Draisaitl and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. Yamamoto was providing some extra depth scoring, something that the Oilers desperately needed as they have been basically a two-man show with McDavid and Draisaitl all year.
However, the Oilers managed to make some moves at Monday’s deadline acquiring Andreas Athanasiou and Tyler Ennis to help with solidifying the depth to try to secure a berth in this year’s Stanley Cup Playoffs. While the loss of Yamamoto is tough, the Oilers’ recent acquisitions should be able to help weather the storm until he returns.
The Oilers’ next game comes on Tuesday night where they will play visitors to the Anaheim Ducks.
